http://depts.washington.edu/rspvirus/herpes.htm has all the info your provider needs to send off an herpes WB. if your provider uses quest labs, it's test # 34534.  if your local quest lab says that's not a herpes wb, they need to look harder because it's a send out for all quest labs.

http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusiion-over-other-IgM-Herpes-posts/show/248394 is a terrific post on why the herpes igm test is flawed and we don't recommend its use.

where can I go to get a biokit or western blot?
I havent got a single clue which test was used on base. And I asked about the IgM and my doctor said those are not wrong. All my paper says is "HSV2 positive" and thats it. No numerical value, or what test was used.

Quest utilizes Herpeselect.

When you ask for the numerical value, also make SURE that they tested you for HSV II (not HSV I ) & make sure it was via IgG, NOT IgM.

I dont know if it was correct. I just know it came out positive, and they didnt put anything indicating the numeric value. and with it being such a low positive, I was hoping that there was a posibility it is wrong

so this was another blood test correct?  give them a call tomorrow and ask what the numeric results were.

I got my second results back yesterday, but no. No numeric value. Just says "positive for herpes, please pick up prescription at the lab"
The first numeric value was 1.25 and the regular range was 1.10
And no, I do not know what test they use. It doesnt say anything at all.

What test do they use at quest? and will my insurance cover it?

what test results were positive?  as still worried asked - what were the results if it was a blood test?

military labs have to meet high standards just like other labs do.

Did you get the numerical value for the second test?  If not, this is very important information.  Also, do you know the name of the test they utilize?  Herpeselect?  Captia?

Personally, I would test elsewhere.  I had no idea of the true validity of this, but I have heard some negative things about military labs, as well.

Like Grace says, Quest is fine.   If it comes back positive again, go with a Biokit or a Western Blot.

I got my second test results back today. Positive again. But I am wondering if I should get a test from another lab bc I use the lab on the military base and they send their blood 5 hours from here.

Ive never had lesions and according to my ex's, all have tested negative for herpes. Im wondering if the test is wrong, becasue I have had one or 2 cold sores before.

the numeric value of your test results has absolutely nothing to do with the odds of transmitting the virus.

unless you had an obvious lesion at the time, absolutely no way for someone to tell if you have herpes or not during a colposcopy.

confirm your status with proper testing and go from there.

I just went and saw a doctor for a colposcopy today and he told me that he does not see anything visible that would indicate herpes and that the positive was so low that transmission is unlikely unless my numbers raise and I should be test again.

do you think that there is any chance that it is wrong? I've already been diagnosed with hpv. and my boyfriend tested negative for everything. Im just really hoping that its wrong...it says that my hvs 1 is .19 and lately ive been feeling like...idk. spots on or above my lip just have been feeling like something is going to grow there. and ive never felt that in my vagina or genital area. Could the test be wrong and I have hsv 1 instead?

quest is one of the best labs in the country.

Your hsv2 igg is a low positive and needs further confirmatory testing. A herpes WB is the best test if you can get your provider to order it for you.  there is currently a post on the first or 2nd page of the forum on confirming low positive results for more info.

Ive never had any lesions, any type of anything that would even begin to make me think I have herpes. And I have performed the same amount if not more of oral sex on my partners, and I have never had any type of anything in my mouth, and I am negative for hsv 1. I am wondering if I should go to quest, but I have heard bad things about that place.

oh god I hope so.
If it is in the low range, what does that mean exactly? as much as I love my doctor, she wasnt giving me much answers. she works at a military hospital and ive found that they tend to...mess things up or just..be careless. I kept asking what are the chances of it being negative and she kept saying "its possible" to pretty much everything. She didnt even tell me abut the "low positive" and "high positive"
I tested again today from teh same lab, so should I go elsewhere?

Do not lose hope. Your test falls in the low positive range and could very well be a false positive. If you read a post just a few hours ago, you will find a person that just tested negative after his first test came back positive in the low range. I would advise you to test again from a different lab.
