Side Effect curiosity

sadly enough i was just diagnosed with herpes a couple of days ago so they have me on the three times a day 400mg of acyclovir for ten days. i know a side effect of this is drowsiness - does anyone know if this continues with the daily suppressive valtrex? once a day 500mg. may sound petty to some that have other more serious concerns, but its my biggest now because its killer and i have two boys to take care of! thank you

How were you diagnoised with HSV?  Was it via blood test or a swab?  Which type?

As for the medication I would wait for Grace to get on here.

usually any side effects to the medications, disappear after a week or two on suppressive therapy
odds are it's the herpes itself and your body fighting it that is making you drowsy, not the medication.

Swab and blood to determine type. I really should just say what I'm on know has a knowqn drowsiness side effect, and valtrex does not...and seeing if anyone else had experienced that before I start taking valtrex daily. I metabolize meds in a way if drowsy is possible..I'm knocked out

valtrex and acyclovir have the same basic side effects. Valtrex is turned into acyclovir inside the body.
