Single Lesion - Non Primary Infection?

Hi Doctor,
About a week ago a single reddish-brown lesion appeared near the base of the left side of my penis. Seven days after the lesion appeared I saw my family doctor who said he did not know what it was but it kind of looked similar to a recurrent herpes sore.
This was shocking to me as I have never had a primary infection of herpes and have not had sexual contact with anyone but my ex-girlfriend who according to my knowledge has not experienced a herpes outbreak. The last time I was sexually active was the first week of September in 2009.

The doctor told me to wait and see what happens and to see him in a week if it hadn't healed. It is slowly healing. Could this be a non-primary herpes infection or something else?

I live in Canada, therefore getting a herpes blood test is not easy.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the response Terry.

I also have prostatitis and was diagnosed with that in early February, which is quite painful to say the least.

Could this be linked with HSV2?

Thanks for your time again.

I have spoken with Canadians here online who are now more successful at getting antibody testing done, that seems to be changing over time, which is good!

Terri,

Thanks for the response.

The lesion was too old to be swabbed apparently and it was open but more like a picked at pimple. I don't think my ex-girlfriend ever had a cold sore and yes she did perform oral sex on me. But like I said in the previous message I have had no sexual contact in about 4 months and have had no previous cold sores or lesions prior to last week. Never even a cold sore on my lip, nothing.

I am in the process of trying to get some sort of antibody test.

Thanks

Did your doctor do a swab test from the lesion?  Was the skin open, like an ulcer?  It could be a non-primary herpes lesion, yes. Has your girlfriend ever had a cold sore?  Is she the giver of oral sex to you?  Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip?    Of course this could be many things, there is certainly no way to know what's going on with you on the computer.  Are you sure you can't get an antibody test?
