and an ulcer. Not thinking anything of it, applied jock itch spray. The ulcer healed, scabbed and was gone in just two days. On the tenth day I noticed a small sore at the bottom of anus actually on a hemorrhoid. Not sure if it was an anal fissure due to a hemorrhoid or something else. It went away in a few days. A few days later I had the same thing on a hemorrhoid on the top of the anus. After a few days, it's now healing. I thought I saw a blister on my testicles in the a.m. three weeks after possible exposure but in the afternoon, I couldn't find it or any trace of it. I'm starting my fourth week after possible exposure and am very confused with these symptoms and the degree of exposure I might have had. If it is a initial outbreak it would be a non-primary initial as I've been HSV-1 longer than remembered. Since that first day, my inner thighs have felt weird or raw and my right buttocks has some real pain.
I'm puzzled what's meant by the statement, "the heat and friction of the sex act is overall very low?" Any help is greatly appreciated.
you need to be seen for your symptoms for a proper work up. odds are these are not herpes but you'll need proper follow up to know.
you wouldn't have a herpes blister occur on the testicles and then be gone a few hours later. also not likely you had a herpes lesion on a hemorrhoid - odds are it was the hemorrhoid itself healing.
Thanks Grace - I will definitely get a blood test but I'm only at 4 1/2 weeks right now, so I need to wait. I agree that the short time of the sores seem odd even for a non primary infection. Obviously, you weren't there during the time of potential risk so I know it's hard for you to comment on it. I was just curious of the statement "heat and friction of sex is the risk but overall low."
you can get herpes from outercourse but the risk of such is very low. even the risk per sex act of hsv2 acquisition from penetrative sex itself is very low. There's really not even any reason for any testing from the encounter you had. follow up properly for any further symptoms if you have them.
Thanks Grace,
Your comments help me get through this and sleep at night. I'm into week four with these symptoms so I'll continue my plan for testing, just for my own piece of mind. I'll post the results as I think it's helpful for others who identify with the situation to see the results. Thanks for your expertise in this forum and your valuable service to its readers.
Grace,
I continue to get very small cuts/fissures at the base of my anus. So small, I need a flashlight and magnifying mirror and then it's tough to see. Certainly nothing big enough to swab. But, I feel it when touched with a Q-tip. I'm anxious to have a blood test. I ordered a Igg test from Healthcheck, but I'm still only 6 1/2 post possible exposure. Since symptoms such as right butt pain, ankle pain, mild anal itch, butt burning all persist for 6 weeks, I have this horrible feeling I'm going to defy the odds of outersex. I'm worried it may have developed into proctitius (constipation, lack of emptying bowels, abdominal pressure).
I believe I read on a post (I read so many I don't know if it was yours or Dr. Warren's) that at 6 weeks 70% will test positive. I also read that being previously HSV 1+ that might delay an HSV 2 seroconversion, so I ask does the 70% estimate take that delay into account? If you think I 70% will detect antibodies after 6 weeks, I'll have my blood drawn tomorrow.
you are spending far too much effort looking at your anal area dear. I recommend putting away the mirror and the flashlight, using a barrier cream on your anal area to soothe it and protect it and stop checking things out!!!!
follow up with your provider as needed for your ongoing symptoms.
I tested HSV 2 negative at 6+ weeks. I realized a lot of joy with that outcome. Putting a lot of hope in the statistic that 80% will test positive by 6 weeks, I lived the last 6 weeks/two months symptom free which made me realize all was in my head and attributed to me being very sensitive to every ache and pain and "looking" way too much at my lower region.
Unfortunately, now my 13 week after possible exposure I developed a huge blister on my left inner thigh. It's very itchy and very uncomfortable. Of course, that's an alarming sign and wondering if my 6+ week negative was simply too early. Thought I share an update as I said I would, in the event it helps others with similar situations.
let me know how it goes please? I had a test done at 6 weeks as well. I tested negative for hsv 1 and 2. halp!!! I've never had an outbreak but I did have the flu 6 weeks after. :( (mid july NOT FLU SEASON) should I retake my test?
you might just have warts. Those clear in 3-4 years and dont come back if you have a decent immune system. I called the CDC today and confirmed that facts of recent research. hpv isnt with you for life unless you develop cancer. Whew.
not to obsess, but how accurate can the test be? I've heard that the virus goes dormant in your body then antibodies wont form? I tested negative, didnt get an outbreak, but did get the flu and if 1/5 people in the US have it then wouldn't I have tested positive. I've had unprotected sex with 4 guys (NEVER AGAIN I WAS YOUNG AND UNEDUCATED) and one of them is VERY promiscuous. I'm freaking out. What if I randomly break out one of these days? :0
