So many questions

I will try to make a long story short. In my early 20s I contracted HSV1 genitally, had no initial episode but would get one large lesion every couple of months for a few years and then I stopped getting recurrences. Fast forward to now. I am in my mid 30s and in October of last year had what looked to be a primary episode of HSV on my right side inner labia  (this is where I would always see my previous episodes) and left side outter labia. It appeared to me to be pretty classic and so I assumed I must have caught HVS2 from an assault that had happened earlier in that month. At that time I was really struggling emotionally and not dating so chose to ignore it for the most part. I skipped a month and then had an episode a month for the next two which showed up in different areas (left side by my clitoral hood, right side under my buttock). Then all of a sudden I began what appeared to be continual outbreaks - one would heal and a couple of days later another would appear) and they never showed up in the same spot. In June I went to get tested to see what I had and to get on suppressive therapy. Since then I have been on valtrex 500mg twice a day (I also have psoriasis which compromises my immune system). I am still getting what appear to be lesions twice a month and now they are on my inner front thigh and look completely different than they had in my experience from my early 20s and from my experience from before I started taking valtrex. Previously I would get one large lesion on one spot and now I get several small lesions, not clustered together but in a crooked row down my leg. I don't have pain with any of these episodes except for the first one in October but when I began valtrex I had what felt like constant prodromal symptoms for the first month. I apologize for the long post but I feel just so at a loss. I had gone to Planned Parenthood for my test and they never got back to me and then lost my test so I decided to go to my primary who I cannot see how until October 4th. And though this has not been physically painful for me it has been emotionally devastating. I have so many questions but my questions for now are:

1) Could these leg lesions be something other than HSV 1 or 2? If so, what?
2) Would I get two outbreaks per month even on supressive therapy? (from my reading this seems so unlikely).
3) Could this be a new infection and a reactivation of my old infection?
4) If all of the above is due to HSV what would be my other options to get this under some sort of control?

Thank you all for your help.

It was a blood test but I do not remember which one now.
I'm schedule for another blood test with my doctor this time in October so I can come back with my questions then if it'll be easier to answer them with the test results.

I am still unclear as to how were you diagnosed initially, through a blood test? If so which one? Or was it a swab?

also I should add that when I was tested in my 20s I found out I had HSV but did not find out the type. I assumed it was HSV 1 based on the fact that it didn't occur as often as the episodes I get now and that I have gotten what appears to be another infection. It is possible that this could be a reactivation of my long dormant previous infection.

Thank you for your reply. I am new to this site and am still feeling a bit emotional about all of this so I appreciate you taking the time to talk and help. :)

I believe I got HSV 1 from a boyfriend who also had it genitally. From reading I see that this doesn't happen often but I assume because my immune system is wonky from psoriasis it might be more likely. To be honest I remember seeing a scab on his genital area and asking him what it was (he lied or didn't know at that time) but never saw anything on or around his mouth. He never preformed oral on me so I assume this is how I got it.

I have what looks like an episode right now of four pinhead sized bumps on my skin. they feel a bit raised like goosebumps but not sore and are in a crooked row a couple of inches apart. One looks like it has a hair in it which made me think this could be folliculitis but I wasn't sure if that could show up in this sort of pattern.
Also, I know this is a no no but I tried to pop one to see if it was more of a blister or a pimple and it would not pop. it swelled a bit but still does not hurt. Also I'd assume that taking so much valtrex would shorten this but the episodes seem to be longer now that I am taking meds which makes me think what I am experiencing right now is not an episode.

Based on what you describe, I think it is wise to assume that there is more than herpes going on here.

Might need to start with the first diagnosis of genital HSV1, how did that happen?
