I just got a call from my doctor with my test results....+ For herpes. It started out with a few bumps then a day later more, then the next day PAINFUL
ulcer type outbreaks all over my genital region. It hurt so back when I would sit, stand, walk, and especially when using the bathroom. I would cry and scream every single time I used the restroom. I don't have insurance so I had to wait for the doc offices to open. I went o the doc and she took a culture. She said it was most likely herpes and prescribed acyclovir 400mg 3/day. My first and only bf so far of two years was tested 3 times and it came back negative each time. Idk how this happened... He gets coldsores so it must have been throughout that, I'm not sure, but blaming won't solve anything so I want to focus on how to PREVENT this from happening again, It's been 3 days and I'm still in pain, lots of it. They prescribed me valtrex now which I will take starting today, hopefully it will work. My fear
is mostly surrounding the idea of having another outbreak. The nurse said that the first one is the worst, but this first one has been SO horrible that even if the next one is a little better it'll still be too much to handle. I'm taking the MCAT in 2weeks too and could not study im in so much pain. How can I be a doctor when I can't even take care of myself!????!!!! I'm also leaving the country right after the MCAT and I want to make sure another outbreak wont ruin my trip to visit my family
So overall, if my first outbreak is this severe, does it foreshadow the severity and amount of my future outbreaks? Is it this horrible b.c I waited 3-4 days to go to the doc ?? I'm so scared and feel like I have ruined my life. I don't want this virus to control and dominate my life.
Thanks for all who listened to my rant, answers will greatly be appreciated.
Which type of HSV were you positive for? HSV-1 or HSV-2? Was he tested using an IgM test or an IgG testing. The IgM is worthless for herpes and shouldn't be used according to the 2010 CDC guidelines.
If you have HSV-1 the outbreaks usually don't reoccur that often. Taking Valtrex will help lessen the severity and speed up the healing of the outbreak. No way to prevent HSV outbreaks the valtrex will help in lessening the amount but it isn't perfect.
