The same exact thing has been happening to me. However, I have never had (or noticed) a breakout and tested positive for herpes type 2 through a blood test. My swollen groin is ALSO on the left side, and has been there for almost two months, and that is what took me to the doctor in the first place. My doctor wanted to test me for herpes to rule it out, and when my test came back positive, she said that explains the swollen groin lymph. What I don't understand is that I've never experienced a breakout, my lymph node has been swollen for almost 2 months, and the area around it ie:hip buttox muscle seem to get easily sore when I work out. I am so confused. I hope someone will answer us.
First off, if you tested negative for herpes, may I ask how they performed the test? If it was cultured, I would see why it didn't test positive but if it was an IGG test, I would say if it is negative you are negaitve. Swollen Lymph Nodes for 2 months straight isn't something herpes does. Herpes outbreaks come and go. Some people it is a few hours to a few days to up to a month if it is an initial infection but 2 months isn't something herpes related.
In addition to slacker's comments - you should follow up on this with your provider. Even if you do have herpes - a lymph node that stays enlarged for 2 months is a reason for follow up. Lymph node swelling with recurrences should get occur less often the longer you are infected. This is worth following up on.
