I recieved test results back from LabCorp Laboratory, and this was the test that were done; HSV l/ll IgG Rflx I-II Type Sp and HSV 1 and 2- Specific Ab, IgG the results came back, HSV1 positive 2.3 and HSV2 positive 2.3, I have never had any symptoms other than bacterial infection from time to time or yeast infection. Can you please help to confirm if this result is accurate? I am very nervous and do not understand about all of this testing with Herpes. Thanks I hope I have made my question clear.
I had a doctor explain my test results to me when I got mine back. She said that the levels of anitobdies found in your blood can determine whether or not you have the virus. The type specific test tells you which type of herpes you have contracted, type 1 which is oral or type 2 which is genital. She said any range number less than 0.90 means that no antibody was detected. A number between 0.90-1.10 means equivocal and that most likely the test would need to be redone. Any range number higher than a 1.10 means that antibodies for the virus has been detected.
Your test results show that both types were detected in your blood. Many people don't always get symptoms, they carry the virus and spread it through viral shedding. Other symptoms people get that often get misdiagnosed are urinary tract infections, yeast infections, jock
bumps or blisters either. The doctor said I should consider myself one of the lucky ones then, some people get them so bad they can barely walk. I hope this helps, I know that you're nervous about this and you're probably trying to wrap your head
around the news. Talk to your doctor about what steps you should take next. Have you spoken with your partner?
Finding out that you have H can be difficult to cope with, might I suggest that you continue to use this forum and other outlets to help you get through this? Let us know how you are doing and if there is anything else we can do to help.
No I haven't informed my partner yet, I just found out, but I was looking over this site and it said that anything less than 3.5 could be a false positive. But I am praying to GOD that a false reading is the case. I thank you very much for your help and response.
Since your hsv2 is under 3.5 you definitely need to confirm it with additional testing. A herpes biokit or a WB for herpes would be the 2 best tests to pick from. I also encourage you to talk to your partner about this so that they too can get tested.
Also - supposedly lab corp is no longer doing the herpeselect as their type specific testing and they have switched to the captiva herpes test. We don't have as much info on the false positive rate with that test as we do the herpeselect but it's still never a bad idea to confirm any low positive with additional testing when you don't have a history of obvious genital lesions and a + lesion culture. ( keep forgetting to make that point )
