That's kind of the way it does behave. It may take a couple of weeks to go away. There is nothing I really recommend at this point in the outbreak, no.

Hello ..
I've been on Acyclovir for 5 days now..and the cold sore on my lip is still there..It dries up during the day and night..but then in the morning it is bad..The medicine isn't making it better or showing signs of improvement. THis cold score or oral herpe...how long does it stay on my lip and is there any medicine I can get at the stores to put directly on it?
Oral herpes and cold sores are the exact same thing. And you would not have genital herpes on your lip if you've never given anyone oral sex, so don't worry about that. I would fully expect the swab test to be positive for Herpes type 1, if it is positive. Acyclovir can be taken for chicken pox or shingles or genital herpes or oral herpes, it works for all of these. And you can certainly take this medicine, and get a refill for future outbreaks. You may have future outbreaks, yes. It is best to start this medicine at the first sign of an outbreak.

Hello Dr.
This will be my last post to you ...I want to thank you for your time and input in my situation. Well I did visit a doctor today. He said that the sore on my lip can be oral herpes, genital herpes, or just a cold sore from stress and fatigue. He did a culture swab and tested me for other std's and Hiv.
The medicine he prescribed to me was Acyclovir...As I've read it, its a medicine for chicken pox or genital herpes.....How can I have genital herpes on my lip when I never performed oral sex on anybody? ....Should take this medicine or just let it heal on its own. And Since I've had oral herpes many years ago..and this is my first breakout...should I be worried about future and frequent recurrences??? Thank you ...
These questions I was not able to ask my doctor...because he seemed busy and left the room after looking at my lip.
Thanks
the sores inside your mouth were canker sores, and those are not caused by herpes. But you did tell me that you tested positive for oral herpes at your screening. Why you are beginning to have cold sores now I don't know, but you are. If you want to have fewer recurrences, you could consider daily antiviral therapy to reduce the frequency of recurrences.

I've had cold sores many times in my life..but they were all inside my mouth. These were blisters outside of my lip. I've never had them before... Why am I having them now...this is the first time in my life..and i'm 28 years old...i believe I have had oral herpes years ago. Does this mean I am going to have oral outbreaks frequently now?
The symptoms that you describe on your lip sound consistent with typical oral herpes symptoms (which you already know that you have from your testing). Have you never in your life had a cold sore on you lip before? When you were diagnosed, did your doctor give you any medicine to take when you get an outbreak? There are antiviral medicines that you can take to shorten the oral herpes outbreak. Call your doctor today and ask for a prescription. The sooner you begin the treatment, the more effective it will be, and I mean this morning!
There is no reason to think you've acquired HIV or genital herpes. This just sounds like cold sores on your lip. I'm not clear why you might be feeling nauseated, but it may be unrelated to these symptoms.
