When we talk about HSV testing we say 3-4 months. There is a test that is detects HSV responses at 12 weeks which is the HerpeSelect (TM) testing. Majority of people though will test accurate by that time. IgM is worthless as it cross reacts with other things and has a lot of problems. You can find a journal entry I made on my journal about IgM which references a link from Dr. HHH about it.
The long and skinny of it is that IgM can't be trusted. Your IgG testing should be the best one to depend on but at this point you don't have an accurate one until at least 12 weeks.
Are you saying I only need to wait until 12 weeks post exposure and not 16?
Also I don't know if this makes any difference or not but my tesing history is as follows:
Protected sex in Sept. Tested probably about 2 or 3 weeks later with
IgM .78
IgG .01 for type 1
igG .06 for type 2
Then the next test with the above results. Does the change in IgM numbers at all? My NP stated she hated doing the IgM test but still seemed to be under the impression we were looking at "recent exposure" as a result of the IgM. Being a medical professional she was very reluctant to give me any kind of difinitive answer beyond the need to use protection and test again in 4 weeks (the 12 week mark).
I honestly am looking for hope here....
You just wait until your 12 weeks for accurate results.
