Hi, I received my herpes test results after 10 weeks since my possible exposure. I have been perfectly healthy with no symptoms whatsoever. The guy, who may have exposed me, isn't sure of his status either and is really freaking me out because his results came back inconclusive and is waiting for his new results that come on Thursday (2/2/2012) the CDC is involved and I have a new and great BF and I'm just really overwhelmed/confused by what I am reading online.... MY results are as follows:
Herpes Culture - Negative
Herpes Simplex 1 IgG - 0.47
1.10 Positive
Herpes Simplex 2 IgG - 0.10
1.10 Positive
Herpes Simplex IgM (H) - 1.59
1.10 Positive
Doctors Comments (summed up):
There are no signs of past exposure to herpes. There is however evidence of recent exposure to herpes. This test cannot determine whether it is 1 or 2. You should recheck in 2-3 months.
I understand the IgG results to be completely negative and that the little trace of herpes 2 of .10 is probably how they test, and no one can have a results of 0.00. But i have read that I should throw out the IgM results completely. Is that true? is my doctor right, that I have had a recent exposure to herpes? Is it too early to tell?
the guy also thinks that I gave the virus to him.. if that is the case, the exposure must have been 12+ weeks (and i really can't remember that far...)
Any knowledge would help right now.. I'm going crazy with all these Herpes articles...
the herpes igm test is a greatly flawed test. current cdc recommendations are that it not be drawn on adults to diagnose herpes.
your hsv1 and hsv2 igg's are both negative. Waiting 10 weeks post encounter means you didn't contract it from the partner in question. it also means you didn't have it to give it to them. No need for any further testing for you.
did you have symptoms that a lesion culture was also done?
has your new partner been tested for herpes now that it's on your mind and you are more aware of it?
I have also have had chicken pox when i was little, shingles when i was a teenager and I might be exposed to mono since my current BF has had it and I have not. (may be why my iGm is a little above positive?)
Also, I think it is great what you are doing on here, Grace. :)
many things make the igm herpes test falsely positive which is why it hasn't been recommended to be drawn on adults for many years now.
you've opened up the proverbial can of worms so now that you are more aware of herpes and that it's not tested for, indeed talking to your current partner is worthwhile. would be very ironic if your current partner had herpes and didn't know it.
I had a sore on my tailbone area that hurt if I sat down. Went to doctor she said this could be herpes. Culture came out negative,
hvs 1abI negative
his 2 ab egg 4.6 positive
hsv ab gm negativehis so is it or isn't it
