Tested Positive with Herpes RapidKit at Montefiore, but

But now I've been seeing an immunologist for other issues and had another Herpes Select 1 and 2 IGG test on 6/17/10 exactly 43.5 weeks (or 10.5 months) after possible infection and it's showing 100% NEGATIVE with both results as follows:

HSV1 = <.91
HSV2 = <.91

Based on my history from the other thread I posted "Confusion over Herpes IGM Results". How is it possible to go from 2.74 H Igg and a positive Herpes Rapid kit, to again another negative IGG. I've taken five IGG tests with in 10 months and 4 out of 5 negative, one is a positve under 3.5.

I have an appointment to see an Infectious Disease Spec, and my Immunologist thinks I've been wrongly diagnosed, serveral times. Can someone shed some light? Terri preferrably, but I didn't pay to post.

I am not familure with the Herpes Rapid Kit.  I don't know what kind of test if it is an IgG Type specific or IgM.  You said IgG so I will take your word for it.  Given the amount of times you have tested negative and the number which is a little low (under 3) you may want to consider getting a western blot done if that number was for HSV-2 (given a type specific test which I don't know if that test is or is not.)

I think you will find that your positive may have been false.  However, I would go through with the western blot just to be sure.   Following up with your doctor is the best course of action though.  Them being experts and all.

I get a physical every year and almost always have bacteria in urine...it's totally not uncommon. They never put me on antibiotics unless I had pain urinating as in a urinary tract infection. Get a second opinion if you are not trusting what your current doctor says.

Hi your posting this in the wrong spot, but I see you've posted multiple places, so if you give it 24-48 hours I'm sure someone with more experience will give their opinions on your other posts.

While I can understand your anxiety (to some degree) in my NON-expert opinion, you don't show signs of having Herpes or HIV especially if you don't have any blisters or something there to make you second guess the blood results. Pain in the area is not enough to say you have Herpes or HIV, plus you said you got a cold or flu feeling the next day, and that def isn't typical of Herpes (I believe it takes at the very minimum 6 days or more), not sure of HIV. If you had something most likely you would've shown something in the blood at this point like a low positive or something. If you read my threads I am a rare exception to the rule with regards to the blood tests as you can see I tested very late low positive and then negative, then positive, etc. I was ultimately positive but i showed conflicting results & outbreaks to keep me testing. Yours are ALL negative w/no physical symptoms.

Trust me I understand how frustrating it is and not trying to make light of your concern, but you need to set a date (like 12 mths mark or something) get tested again, and if still nothing MOVE ON. I bet you if you relaxed about it the physical symptoms you describe (leg pain, back pain) would vanish.

Best of Luck!

I received unprotected oral sex (the girl was positive for HSV2)  from the first day I was very stress if I caught any STDS from here (HIV - Herpes) I think I got sick from the first day to a few weeks ( Flu - Cold - testicle pain - lympho node pain feel like a swilling and didnt see any swilling - pain walking - lower back pain - legs pain - rash around my body - [imples but didnt look like blister but pain to touch - buttoaks pain - lost weight from stress and anxitey  almost 10 LB ) I know all that related to Herpes and HIV Symptom.... but I had many blood test done....

after 6 days from my contact:

Herpes 1 IGG & 2 IGG  Negative  ,  Herpes 1&2 IGM  Negative     HIV PCR/DNA and other STDS   Negative   (LapCorp)

after 20 days from my contact:

Herpes 1 IGG & 2 IGG  Negative  ,  Herpes 1&2 IGM  Negative     HIV PCR/DNA and other STDS   Negative   (LapCorp)

after 6 weeks from my contact:

Herpes 1 IGG & Herpes 2 IGG   Negative  ( Qwest D. )     HIV  antibody   (Qwest D. )  Negative

after  3 months from my contact :

Herpes 1 IGG & Herpes 2 IGG   Negative  ( Qwest D. )     HIV  antibody   (Qwest D. )  Negative

after 6 months from my contact:

Herpes 1 IGG & Herpes 2 IGG   Negative  ( Qwest D. )     HIV  antibody   (Qwest D. )  Negative

after 11 months from my contact:

Herpes 1 IGG & Herpes 2 IGG   Negative  ( LabCorp )     HIV  antibody rapid oral   (Clenic)  Negative

I'm still get pain in legs, buttoaks , groin area apin and presure ... Can I still have herpes or HIV after all this negative blood work ? or that someting else ?

Thank you.

I got my blood results back from the Infectious Disease Specialist, however they ran the wrong test (they did the combined test) and it came back positive so they re-sent the blood for the Herpes Select 1 & 2 IGG (the one that determines which one you have), and that came back negative. I got those results today and the doc told me to still get the Western Blot on the 28th since we got more conflicting blood results.

Last week though I had an outbreak beginning on 7/11/10 and went to the gyno 4 days later on Thursday morning 7/15 (my mistake, I learned that the a dr office will squeeze in appointments for cultures and you shouldn't wait as long as I did). Anyway, I received a call this afternoon from my gyno and the culture results are POSITIVE for HSV-2.

Yay!!! case closed!!!! Who ever would think to be happy with that news, but what a relief to finally know after almost 1 full year (2 weeks shy)...i have no doubts now and will cancel the Western Blot test for next week. Thanks to all for your support :)

You're probably right about waiting, but given what I've been trhough with this, I'm feeling curious (not to mention desperate and neurotic lol) about what another IGG would bring. Especially since I'll have to wait a few more weeks for the WB and then more time for the results. I'll add that to my list of "worst part of this"; the waiting. Thanks again for your support.

That is the worst part.  Thankfully I am lucky that I didn't have to go through that honestly.  We almost except the test to be perfect 100% of the time.  Sucks that it isn't though and that is what gets a lot of people.  Given the high chance that its a false positive I am betting in favor your WB will come back negative.  Though the IgG test you just took maybe in vain.  If the value climbs to a higher number then you may have your answer but I wouldn't have used the test again and would have waited for WB.

Thank you, I took another IGG again yesterday and will see what that result shows. I'm technically at a tie...the latest negative I had  on 6/17 could be a false negative, or the 2.74 IGG result I got before that could be a false positive. I took the test yesterday basically for the heck of it to see what the result says. Will it be negative again? over 3.5 positive? or maybe a gray area under 3.5 again? Who knows. Thought I would get that result so I can brace myself for the possible bad news if I test positive on the Western Blot on 7/28. We'll see! Again the worst part of this is the unknowing, and being told that you have it, you don't, you have it, you don't :)

Thanks, it's been frustrating to say the least. To be honest I'm not sure why, but my understanding at the time was that I have too many things pointing to you have it. If you read my previous post to Terri Warren in the Dr. forum it explains more. I had a couple gray areas (e.g. biopsy showing "could be" this or that, IGG at 2.74). I think Dr. Gilbert was just trying to save me a some money by avoiding the Western Blot and doing the Rapid Test instead. Yesterday I got retested IGG HerpesSELECT and will get results Monday (hopefully) and will post when I get them just in case anyone is in the same boat LOL but I think I may be the only lucky one out there!!! :)

oh man riverrocks, I feel for you!  Hopefully you will be able to get your answer.  Just wondering why did they say it wasn't possible to have a WB in your case?

IgM is worthless bud.  That is what everyone keeps trying to tell you.  That test is like the worst you can run on a grown adult.  If you read the post Grace gave you it explains why they run it.

For your doctor I would again HIGHLY recommend that they look over the provider blood test guide at www.ashastd.org  They may find it helpful.  I doubt he knows much of the test is what it sounds like.  It is considered the GOLD standard for HSV testing and what every test is compared against.  So given that I would say you need to get the information you can and provide it to him.

Mistake/Petal, thank you, that is definitely my next move. After 10 mths of "yes you have, no you don't", I think I deserve closure one way or the other.

Again, I did try to get a Western Blot through Dr. Jeff Gilbert at Montefiore, and he said it wasn't poss with my case, so he gave me the "next best thing" the Rapid Test. I think now he'll change his mind and try to get this test for me. Cross your fingers.

Definitely odd that a biopsy results showed a grey zone, the IGM showed a grey zone, the IGG showed 2.74, and the Rapid test was positive (although no one really knows what this test is) all at 4-6 mths, and now no trace of anything on the IGG.

I will keep you all posted, at least to learn something from my  experience. Thanks again.

Petal is right on us talking to Terri.  I don't have a direct line to her other then like you paying.  Sorry.

You need to get the western blot.  Like Terri suggested.  I won't question her at all.  If your doctors won't give it to you then you need to find someone who will.  I would explain to them that this is a gold standard test.  We can speculate all we want.  However, the best deal is to get the western blot done.

You have to post on Terri's forum - no one here communicates with her. I believe she in fact told you to get the Western Blot.

...and please advise Terri Warren of the latest I don't see a way of getting in touch without paying. I think she'd be happy to know she was right if this does end up to be a false positive like she said way back when. Of course I will have to see the dr. and also see if I can get a Western Blot to confirm once and for all. Thanks!

...and yes, these results are both IGG Herpes Type Specific the one at 6 mths and 10 mths, except for the Rapid Test, not sure what that is to be honest, just know it's a confirmation test of some sort.

Hi Mistakeguy, thanks for responding. I should also mention I tested at the same time on the 17th for HIV, all Hepetitis', Lyme, and they were all negative. I tired talking to the guy at Montefiore Medical Center who conducted my Rapid Test and asked him about the Western Blot and he said it's very difficult to get a Western Blot. Not sure what the reasoning was (can't remember exactly) but based on all of my threads, since too much pointed to having Herpes, I belive the conclusion was they wouldn't warrant that test for my case.

I'm thinking it might be warranted now, because how can I go from negative everytime until 6 mths, then test postive at 2.74 at 6 mths, then at over 10 mths go back to negative?

My immunologist has diagnosed me as having a genetic immune deficiency, but wants to wait until I get back for the Infectious Disease Specialist before setting that in stone.

I wonder if they will give me the Western Blot at this point now. I wonder even if I can trust any of the tests I'm given. :(
