Almost a year ago, I went to the doctor because of intense pain and sores. I was tested for herpes. A Week after the visit my doctor called me back and told me it was a positive for herpes, but couldn't tell me which type it was. HSV1 or 2. I was devistated so I didn't ask questions. I have not had an outbreak since, and its got me wondering if it was a misdiagnosis b/c the test WOULD show which type it is. Right?
Depends on how they tested you and what they ordered as to if it would've been typed or not. You need to follow up on this and get yourself a type specific herpes igg blood test to see which type you have. You and your partner can not make educated decisions on what precautions to take until you know what type you have ( and they know what type they have too ).
the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific and free resource to learn more about genital herpes in general at as well as how to find out what type you have.
