Tingling Before Outbreak?

I've never had a cold sore and any STD test I've had in the past has always been negative for both HSV-1 and 2.  I was recently with someone who is high risk and am now worried about having possibly contracted something.  We had protected intercourse but unprotected oral.  I'll be the first to admit that I'm paranoid but considering the guy's history, which I was initially unaware of, I think it's justified.  I've had a tingling sensation in one spot on my bottom lip for close to 24 hours now.  There is no redness, just the tingling.

My question is, if this were the start of an HSV outbreak, would there be redness with the tingling?  Is the fact that there is no visible indication of anything a good sign?  I have an appointment with my gynecologist next week but was just looking for peace of mind until then (even though I'll probably still make myself crazy worrying).  Thanks!

Just about always accompanied by sores very soon after. If you're waiting over a day, I'd suggest it probably is not a primary herpes infection symptom.

I'm confused.  Does that mean there would be no tingling the first time someone experiences an outbreak after infection?

No, a primary outbreak would see tingling accompanied almost immediately by sores.

Hi, when we use the word tingling is most often for those who already have outbreaks not for recent infections.
