Transferring the HSV-1 Virus

Transferring the HSV-1 Virus

I have a question concerning autoinoculation of the HSV-1 virus. My girlfriend of two years recently developed herpes on her genitals. She gets cold sores from time to time on her lip but she has never experienced an outbreak on her genitals. She went to the doctor to get tested for HSV-2, but the tests came back indicating she did not have the HSV-2 virus but does have HSV-1. This was not a surprise because of the cold sores she experiences. My question is  could she have transfered the HSV-1 to her genitals by touching a cold sore on her lip and then touching her genitals? She has had HSV-1 for years so is autoinoculation possible?  I don't have HSV-1 so I know I didn't infect her, should I be concerned that she is not being completely honest with me?

Did she have a blood test done or did she have a lesion culture of her symptoms that came back as hsv1+?

Have you been tested for herpes yet with a type specific herpes igg blood test to know your own status?
