Transmitting HSV 1 to my husband

I have been married for 28 years and last month was diagnosed with HSV 1 in my genitals. The Dr. said this was a new infection and I had a severe outbreak. My husband went to be tested and he has HSV 1 also, but he has never had any kind of sore in, on or around his mouth that he can ever remember. His test showed that his was an old infection.  So we know I got it from him, although this shocked us both.  He had no clue he had this. My question is: I have read that he can't get it on his genitals from me, because his body already has the antibodies, but I read on anoter forum of a man who said his girlfriend got it from his as well during oral sex and he was told not to worry, but he did get it in his genitals from her giving him oral sex. I don't want to give it to my husband and then me get it in my mouth from giving him oral sex. Can our sex life ever be  like it was before, other than during outbreaks?

No reason to wonder - herpes can be transmitted even when a person does not have symptoms. I have genital HSV1, and it wasn't until 5 years after I was in the relationship with my boyfriend, and plenty of oral sex, that he transmitted it to me. He had had oral herpes since he was a teen, and never had cold sores in the time we were together. Neither of us knew it could be transmitted through viral shedding.

unless you get an obvious cold sore, no way to know if you also got it orally or not.  only 20-40%  of folks who have hsv1 orally, ever get cold sores to know it.

your husband is VERY unlikely to contract hsv1 on his genitals from you. just avoid sex anytime you have obvious genital symptoms to err on the side of caution.
