Transmitting Oral Herpies(herpes) to Own Genitals

Hi everyone,
I have a possible cold soar on my mouth. I cannot yet tell. First, if I kiss someone and they give oral sex back, is it possible I can spread my herpes to her mouth that then transfers back to my own genitals? And also, the thing on my lip might be just a pimple that was popped from putting on too much chapstick. Yet it is still puffy and looks like it may break out, but it hasn't or the last 3 days. Is that stage contagious still? Thank you!

no, you won't get your own herpes back genitally from that scenerio.

yes it would still be contagious if it's oral herpes.

have you and your partner ever been tested for herpes to know who has what?

I know I have oral herpies (herpes), but that's it. I have no idea what she has. It is always an awkward question to ask. But at least you have helped relieve some stress. Thank you!

it's part of being sexually responsible to talk about all std's and testing, including herpes testing. You can't make educated decisions with a partner about what precautions to take until you know who has what.  You know you have hsv1 orally so you need to know what your hsv2 status is as well as you can't decide what precautions to take with a partner for your hsv1 until you know what they have. Make it a normal part of your talking with your partners - include all std history, testing, birth control use and condom use - the more you do it, the more natural it becomes as a topic for you!
