Type 1 Herpes ?

Type 1 Herpes ?

I was unaware that cold sores meant type 1 herpes, my wife has it and we have been married for 5 years  ( we have protected sex 95 % of the time) , a week back I noticed that I had some skin flaking on my glans (glands) and there was a 1mm cut on the base of the penis where the foreskin joins the glans (glands),I thought it maybe some kind of jock itch and applied lotrimin and the cut vanished in two days. However I started researching a bit on the cause and am kind of coming to the fact that possibly I have contacted HSV1 from her ? There are no extra cuts or wounds and the flaking doesn't seem to happen, maybe is it because i'm still applying lotrimin both in the morning and night ? Can this be herpes ? We are planning to have one kid soon - is there any problem with having a kid ? Will the kid get infected ?

this sounds like a fungal infection, not genital herpes.

You need to continue to apply the jock itch medication a full week after the rash disappeared so that it doesn't come back right away.

now that herpes is on your mind, why not both of you go and get type specific herpes igg blood tests at some point to see who has what? You know your wife has hsv1 orally. Even if you can't recall ever having a cold sore yourself, you very well could have it too.  Also either of you could have hsv2 and not know it too.  Get it all out of the way before pregnancy occurs so that you are informed.

I just recently acquired type 1 genital herpes from my partner of 5 years because he gave me oral sex shortly after he had a coldsore.  So I just wanted to warn you to be cautious when it comes to oral sex with your wife.
