Unsure if I am infected, major anxiety

Hello all,

As I am sure this question is asked quite often, I am unsure whether I have herpes or not. I had unprotected vaginal sex a little over a month ago, since then this is my timeline of symptoms. I am a male by the way.

-a week later I started having an urgency to urinate and when I did I was unable to completely empty my bladder
-I had some minor pain on the tip of my penis, but it mainly felt like it was due to not being able to empty my bladder
-no visible discharge other than what seems like urine
-two weeks or so later I started noticing a discomfort in and around my anus, like a sharp pain and sweating in that area (not uncommon as I am hairy, but more than usual)
-I investigated in that area and it appears that I have a skin tag or fissure of some sort (light white colors half inch long of loose skin)
-minor pain in pelvic area
-went to the doctor and got a complete STD panel (urine, blood, swab) everything came back negative except for minor traces of blood in my urine
-diagnosed as prostatitis but the doctor didn't seem very confident (I'm only 23 years old.. Prostate?!) and was give a month supply of cyproflaxacin
-I am now 4 days away of finishing treatment of cipro, symptoms still the same :(
-I went to a urologist and have a cystogram scheduled for Monday, but he believes it was due to pelvic floor syndrome and stress (I just moved to a new area, new job, bad break up etc)
-At this time my back, around my spine/tailbone is causing pain and my anus is still itchy and occasional sharp pains, as well as still unable to empty my bladder, I haven't seen any noticeable lesions
-Ive always had bumps/pimples on my waste and buttox due to tight boxer briefs, but nothing seems unusual

I know many of you reading this may think I'm crazy and think this doesn't sound anything like herpes, but I can't kick this feeling that I have many of the symptoms.. And I may have contracted it. My anxiety is not allowing me to sleep, and I'm constantly stressed and worried because no one has been able to tell me what is going on. I've always been extremely fit and active but I just haven't been my self lately..

Has anyone ever experienced any of the symptoms I have described that turned out to be HSV positive? I know that you have to wait a few months before being able to take a blood test.. But I just have this feeling that something isn't right. Any input would be greatly appreciated! I apologize for any grammatical errors I wrote this on my phone :)

the lesions from herpes usually are painful to the touch.

you can have herpes lesions anywhere in the entire boxer short area regardless of the sex act from which the infection was originally received.

Thank you so much for your response. No they have not done a physical prostate exam but I have a cystogram tomorrow morning.

I think the timing has caused some anxiety and being unable to know for sure (only been a little over a month since encounter) has my mind racing.

Is it common to not have associated pain with lesions, I hear that this can happen sometimes. Or is pain normally present?

Lastly is an OB on or around the anus common from vaginal intercourse?

Thanks again for your response :) and the get well wishes

prostate infections in males your age are actually fairly common. it's not something that only old men have to deal with. did they manually examine your prostate to look for inflammation?

syphilis testing has to be done 6 weeks post encounter. hiv after 3 months. herpes igg blood testing can also be done after 3 months. be sure to complete your std testing at the proper times to follow up from this encounter.

is it likely you'd have these sorts of symptoms from herpes and not have obvious lesions that your providers would've noticed? No it is not.

continue your antibiotics and drink plenty of water. Avoid caffeine , alcohol and spicy foods too since they sometimes trigger urinary symptoms in males.  follow up with the urologist as needed too. Best of luck and feel better soon!
