Update and info after doctor visit...Ideas?

I am a 46 year old female diagnosed 13 years ago with HSV (never told 1 o2 2) and have only had about 5-6 outbreaks.... I had written a few days ago about vague symptoms I was having starting on Saturday...something feeling not "right" down there...became off and on burning Monday in mostly rectal area with no lesions I could see...so for an update regarding symptoms and trip to the doctor...

I postponed the trip to visit my guy friend (who is aware I have HSV) for 2 1/2 weeks and started taking Valtrex 500mg 2x per day on Saturday, less than 12 hours after 1st inkling something may not be right...had a bit of a flare up of IBS last week and typically go to the bathroom many times per day/my "normal"...Prep H did not help though, and don't have pain upon urination or defecation...

I went to the doctor yesterday as I still felt burning/warmth in the rectal area, had been on Vatrex for 3 days and wanted another prescription for Valtex as I want to use suppressive therapy before I visit my friend..my urine showed nothing abnormal and the doctor said their were no lesions or signs of redness or irritation...she said she thought it was HSV anyway...and suggested I do another a 3 day course of Valtrex which I am doing....I took Motrin and put ice on it last night...

Seems to be exacerbated by sitting some...Been non stop thinking about it and researching the heck out of it...seems the general consensus is that if Valtrex doesn't help and no lesions most likely something else...thinking maybe internal hemmroids...or just stress/worry...

Just sort of doesn't make sense...luckily I don't visit my friend for a bit over 2 weeks, so hoping that symptoms will have resolved by then...if it's still burning then being on Valtrex for almost 3 weeks I think it would be safe to assume not herpes and not contagious/shedding...wouldn't you think?

This is puzzling to me, frustrating and worrisome...something many of you can relate to!

Any insight, advice or suggestions would be appreciated of course...

Why didnt you have a blood test herpes select igG?  Also you mentioned you  had 5 or 6 flare up, do you mean you had a lesion breakout and if yes where?

If its herpes it will respond esp with recurrence as inhibits the virus from multiplying.

Can the sores show up like a pimple on the outside skin? around your buttcrack? I am so sorry for being so blunt.

Oh, and also, if it is a recurrence is it unusual that it has not responded to Valtrex?

Thanks again will call the doc and ask for the script....since I have already been diagnosed via swab 13 years ago, this test would be the first step in?

normally the sores do not show in that area between the vagina and anus as the skin is thick there with few nerves for the virus to activate.

Its a very simple blood test called herpes select igG type specific. In derterming herpes this the first step.

I guess having so few ob and not knowing the varities of tests available and their purposes was not informed enough to ask and the doctor didn't suggest any further testing yesterday...will google test you mentioned...sure i could get it if I call doc back today...

Initial outbreak with lesions between vagina and rectum...2 or 3 with lesions I think but long time ago...most recent, last year had weird feeling sort of like now, but progressed to pain upon urinating/defecating (has always been the norm with my ob) and resolved itself pretty quickly...

Just perplexed by symptoms and that the Valtrex doesn't seem to be helping...
