VIRAL SHEDDING

RECENTLY TESTED POSITIVE FOR HSV-2.  HUSBAND TESTED NEGATIVE.  IT SEEMS HE HAS ESCAPED INFECTION FOR 20 YEARS.
HAVE BEEN DOING LOTS OF READING ON INTERNET, HOWEVER, STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE ISSUE OF SHEDDING.

IN MY SITUATION, MY OUTBREAKS ARE ON MY SACRAL AREA AND BUTTOCKS.  I ASSUME THAT THE AREAS  WHERE I WOULD SHED THE VIRUS WOULD BE WHERE THESE LESIONS OCCUR. THEREFORE MY SEX PARTS WOULD NOT BE AN AREA FOR TRANSMISSION AND A CONDOM WOULD NOT BE NECESSARY.  THIS MIGHT ALSO EXPLAIN WHY MY HUSBAND HAS NOT BE INFECTED.  AM I CORRECT IN THESE ASSUMPTIONS?

First off please no need to type in all caps.  On the internet we consider that yelling.  :-)

Can you please tell us how you tested positive for HSV-2?  Was it a blood test?  If so which one IGG or IGM?  Was it done via a swab and culture?  

You shed the virus anywhere in the "boxer-shorts" area when its active.  So you can have an outbreak anywhere there and be shedding inside your cervix or else where.  The virus is in the nerves that supply nerves to the skin in that area.  You should avoid sexual contact when you are having an outbreak.  The shedding of the virus during periods with no outbreaks is anywhere there is no thick skin.

I've reviewed your extensive post on the std experts forum from january.

did you ever get to see a dermatologist for your symptoms?  this didn't really sound like it was your hsv2 reoccurring, just that whatever was going on, got you tested for herpes to know that you had hsv1 and hsv2 both.  

even though you've never had symptoms on your actual genitals that you are aware of, sex is still a risk of transmission for your husband. You already know from 19 years of being with the same partner that the risk of transmission is overall very low so totally up to the 2 of you, what precautions you want to take.
