I recently came off a 3-month long session of Solodyn for a skin condition I was diagnosed with over the summer. Prior to that, I had been on antibiotics for a severe colds, twice and have gotten yeast infections twice due to those antibiotics, so it was inevitable that I was going to get another yeast infection after I finished the Solodyn. I started getting the yeast infection symptoms a little more than a month ago, but wanted to wait until after I finished the antibiotics to fill my sript for the vaginal
cream, Terazol. Once I was done with the Solodyn, I filled it my perscription for the Terazol but also made the appointment to go see my gyn as precaution. I noticed that my last period, which ended about 2-1/2 weeks ago, was oddly heavier than normal -- so I wiped a lot and more and scratched a little more with toilet paper due to the itching
with one of them 2 days ago, which is when I noticed the itching and the burning while he was inside of me. It felt more intense than my usual yeast infection. Like a coward I didn't say anything and just went to the gyn to get everything checked out first. She noticed that I had linear cuts on my perinium and it was red, kind of looked inflamed, but there were no blisters, just slight, short cuts. She suspected herpes immediately, but didn't want to say ssince she had to perform the blood test first, which I am currently stressing over as I have to wait another 5 days for the results. That was yesterday -- today, I've been examining at every chance I get and notice that the cuts look more red when I get out of the shower, but before I go to bed, and use the Terazol cream, they don't bother me at all and seem to be going away slightly. I can't tell anymore as I've been checking myself out so much I just don't know. I do know that when dry, they are not as enflamed anymore . I'll also say that I know this is definitely a wake up call if I am lucky enough to NOT have contracted herpes, but I had been on and off, with both partners for a little over a year and none of them have shown visible signs of oral or genital herpes. I'm always examining their stuff and have never noticed anything myself. From reading posts between yesterday and today, I know that the possibilities are endless and I cannot do anything now except wait. Do you think that yeast infections really do cause vaginal cuts?? I try to think positively and hope and pray for the best and really hope that it is all coincidental with the heavy period, and the wiping and the yeast infection causing these cuts, and that is possible, but I am just trying to get through these next 4 days without losing my mind. I also recently discovered 1 cut in my inner labia possibly from the yeast infection, or from wiping to hard...as well as geographic tongue (crossing my fingers it is a coincidence). Scared, hopeful and praying....
Unfortunately at this point all you can do is wait. you waited too long to treat your vaginal yeast infection and were on antibiotics so odds are you have a whopper of a yeast infection going on to be honest. That can be very irritating to your genital skin too plus you've been sexually active during all of this which just causes more irritation. I recommend that sometime between 2 weeks from now and a month from now, you return to your provider to make sure that the yeast is all gone too. Might take several rounds of treatment to clear it up completely.
I'd also ask both your partners to get tested for std's and make sure that they get herpes testing too with it. You also should have a type specific herpes igg blood test done on yourself too. Once you know who has what, you can better determine if you were at risk for herpes or not too.
Sometimes it really sucks to be a gal and deal with vaginitis. Your provider is doing the right thing by following up on all of this with you too.
Thanks grace. My doctor called me today while I was at work with the results from my blood test and they were negative. It was a relief but it was through voicemail so I still haven't had a chance to talk to her to confirm all the details... I also went to a new gyn today, which I feel more comfortable with (he sat down and consulted with me first for about 10min, and then examined). He said he would be surprised if the new cut I have on my labia is herpes, then he took a culture of the cut. He also checked for the yeast infection and said it looks like it should be all cleared up now but I will be sure to pay close attention to it in the next coming months..Although I am relieved about the negative blood test, I still want to talk to my doctor who I was playing phone tag with, to double check and make sure I have the facts right about which test she did...i will pick up those blood test results in the next coming week and share them. I'm positive she just checked for HSV-2. As far as the culture test from my new gyn, I get that result on Tuesday. Still have anxiety over waiting for test results just because, you know, you just NEVER KNOW and the experience of waiting for the past few days will haunt me forever, but I think it is a good thing...I've learned a huge lesson in all of this and have since put myself and my health before anyone else. I'm really thankful that this message board is here and that people like me, who Google their fears and symptoms have reliable resources and people just being truthful with them and sharing their experiences. I will touch base again once I hear back from both doctors. THank you again, grace for getting back to me. I see you have TONS of people who are in the same boat as me, and to get any sort of response means a lot and was very helpful!
