What is the procedure for getting a Valtrex prescription?? Every time I go to this doctor I go to, he writes me a prescription for 3 months. And when the refills are up calling in to ask for more is not an option. They actually want you to come into the office. I don't have time to keep doing this. And I really don't see the point!?!? What needs to be looked at? Nothing is going to change! Herpes obviously can not be cured so why can't I get a prescription for life or is this not an option? Now that I have the written prescription in my hand
You need to find a different doctor. They need to be writing you a years worth of refills. If they are only writing for a 3 month supply at a time then you can't get more than that no matter where you take it.
are you taking the medication suppressively or just when you have ob's?
Thanks for your response! I hadn't been taking the pills at all because my outbreaks arent that bad and only last a few days. But I've decided I want to start taking the medication suppressively. I only went to this doctor becasuse I was in between jobs and didn't have insurance. I have another doctor that I see for check ups and all that but she told me to come back when I had an outbreak. Its like I can't win! I knew there was something fishy about this doctor because I've been having problems with them since I first started going. Is there someone I can report them to? Or can I show my other doctor that I do take valtrex (proving that I'm obviously infected) and maybe she can write me a new prescription? I just want to do all I can before I get the prescription filled.
Give your regular doctor a call and ask them to prescribe daily suppressive therapy for you. If you don't have insurance, acyclovir will be the cheaper option for you. If you've been previously diagnosed as having genital herpes, no reason to have to go in with a recurrence and "prove" you have it - that's bogus.
You can also call the clinic you've recently been going to and ask to talk to the clinic manager and make a complaint. I recommend writing it all down first on a check list you can literally check off as you cover each complaint with them so that you don't miss anything. Ask specifically why you are only being given refills for 3 months at a time also and not a full year.
Well I did go back there and the office manager is the doctor I believe. And he said that was their procudure that a patient be checked every 3 months "not necessarily down there". Ok so what the heck are they checking??! I don't know. So I said well I came here today and was not checked. He said I didn't know you were here. So I asked him then why did he write the prescription. And he had nothing to say after that. But basically I got no where and he slammed the window closed and walked away. Thanks again for your response. I will follow up with my regular doctor when I run out of refills.
