Virgin Mary question-How did I get it?

This is a repeat, but as much info as possible would be nice...
"Hey!
I'm very upset-two weeks ago, I was told I have herpes; given the meds, a sample was taken for a confirmation culture.
Last week, I healed up, and it was confirmed as herpes sim. II.
My partner, who has been my only partner, only has type I, hasn't had an outbreak this year.
How could I have gotten a completely different type as him? Especially as I was told I was negative for type I?
His only other partner has neither; she kindly took a test to help us out."
Added: We've both been tested twice. I'm still positive for II, he's still only positive for I.
Help?

Always use protection.  You minus well give it up now.  No need of waiting.  Just use protection at all times.

Well, now I am totally confused. If he had a herpes select test and only came back as HSV1 and it is a fact he gave you HSV2, then he has a fresh disease in him that is not being picked up by the test. If he in fact does NOT have HSV2 and you have it, then my next question is how did you find out you have it. Did a Dr. look at a sore and say "Oh yeah, that's herpes"? If so and in fact you are a virgin up till this guy and he does not have HSV2, then your Dr. is WRONG. What did your sores look like and symptoms specifically? You may not have herpes.

I would say either of 2 things. He probably didn't have the herpes select test and his Dr. assumed it was HSV1 or he never had a definite diagnosis of HSV1. He could have HSV2. The other thing is if indeed you are a virgin other than this guy, he caught HSV2 after his last test and has infected you. He MAY be HSV1+ and HSV2+. Tell him to get a herpes select test. Just because he doesn't have symptoms down there doesn't mean he doesn't have it.

Jay I just reread your initial post - you say you were tested twice for herpes. How were you tested the 2nd time? I assume the 1st time was a lesion culture of active symptoms.  If you had a blood test done - can you please get a copy and post the numeric results here for me?

Can you also get a copy of your bf's blood test results and post their numeric value here - ie hsv1 igg 5.7 and hsv2 igg .9 or whatever they were?

Well you definitely describe Herpes there. It is possible he gave you HSV1 down there if he doesn't have HSV2 or he has HSV2 and doesn't know it.

I feel like I'm reading my story.  Like someone else mentioned definitely be retested, both of you in two months, because chances are he does have hsv2 if you've never been with anyone else sexually and the outbreak happened shortly after you two were intimate.  I know it doesn't feel like it now, but I promise it does get better and easier to deal with.  The outbreaks will most likely greatly lessen in severity over time(I had about 30 sores my first outbreak and now have one or two at a time and maybe only one to two outbreaks a year) and after a while you come to terms with it and realize it doesn't have to control your life.  If you're not taking valtrex suppresively just make sure to have some on hand for when you do get an outbreak and take it as soon as you feel symptoms.  It will get better!!!

Dr. looked as the massive amount of blisters-some of which had already broked-that covered the area from my anus to the top of my labia (not as extreme as I describe, I'm sure, but there were 20 blisters), felt my swollen lymph nodes (behind the knee and at the groin), asked about increased smelly discharge (yes), pain during urination (yes), flu-like symptoms (only extreme fatigue). He then took a sample for a culture, and swabbed for clym. and gon.
All these symptoms took less than 72 hours to develop fully, on a weekend when I had to work, 7 days after the first type of any sexual contact-in this case oral, and a bit of frottage.
I couldn't even walk right, and I had to walk to the Drs office. I cried when the Vicodin he prescribed kicked in-emmensly painful. He had gone ahead and prescribed ayclovior, which kicked in 3 days later. I only have 2 sores remaining, and a few scabs.

At this point I recommend both of you waiting 2 months and then repeating your blood tests.  Be sure to get print outs of the results so you can have the numerical results to post either here or on the doctor's std forum for help with them.

He did have the herpes select test. After I started showing symptoms. Neither of us knew it wasn't normally included...he just wanted an estimate of how long he had it, and which of his past girlfriends he needed to tell.

I haven't.
Which kinda sucks, you know?
I haven't even had sex with him, forget anyone else.
I kinda equate "outercourse" with the act; I'll only do it if I've been seeing them a while. I've never seen anyone BESIDES him.
*insert epithet of choice here*, why me? HOW me?

Hi Mary,

Have you fooled around at all with anyone else besides your current partner? Not even necessarily oral sex, but possibly rubbing of the genitals?  From experience, I got herpes 2 when I was a virgin.  The first time I fooled around heavily with a guy, without having sex, I transmitted it from him.  So it is definitely possible.  Otherwise, if you've never been with anyone besides your current partner in any sort of capacity I'm not sure what to say, unless it was an oral hsv2 outbreak that you had.  I hope this helps!
