Want to know if I got a false positive

I have never had any symptoms of herpes and I have been safe 95% of the time. I recently got tested for the first time and i just got the results back from Labcorp stating positive for HSV2 with a 3.33 score. I have read on here that it is possible that this could be a false positive? The HSV1 score was under the .91. I am freaking out and want to know what the best course of action is? If someone has an outbreak what is there score normally? Where could I find a place to get a more accurate test asap? Thanks!!

cold/flu won't affect the blood test results.

About 20% of folks with hsv2 are truly asymptomatic.  The rest who are hsv2+ but think they have never had symptoms, just don't know what to look for. Usually a proper education on how herpes presents is helpful and I"ll gladly help you with that part if your confirmatory testing comes back +  :)  The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com and the patient counseling video on the same site are also very good places to start learning more about herpes at.

See the thing I keep going over back and forth in my head is that I have never had anything close to resembling a symptom, I know it is possible to be asymptomatic but being in the "false positive range" I would like to think I don't have it. If I was sick when I went in (like flu/cold) would that affect the test? Thanks!

Labcorp's herpes igg blood test is the captia test which is fda approved. There are false positives with most of the herpes blood tests which is why additional testing is recommended. Your provider would never, ever, EVER tell you you have hiv based on 1 test. They wouldn't tell you you have syphilis based on 1 test.  They wouldn't even ever tell you you have cancer based on 1 test. Confirmatory testing should be the norm when it comes to herpes testing when there isn't a + lesion culture to back it up.

I just went this morning to Quest Labs and got a test ordered through tSTD online. They offered the HerpesSelect which from my understanding is better than what LabCorp is using currently. Is the LabCorp test even FDA approved? The tSTD said that results should be in within 3 days. Fingers crossed!! Thanks for your help, I will post results asap!

There is no reason for you to pay for an appointment for them just to order up a blood test. That's wasting your money.

Unfortunately  the herpes WB will cost you around $150 or more even if your doctor does order it for you.  I have no places online to recommend getting it thru ( especially not any  who  won't  overcharge  you for it.  )

I talked to my PMD's Nurse Practitioner today and she said I would need to be seen for them to order a test. I am unemployed and can barely afford the test itself. I looked on Quest's website and they require orders for a test. How can I go about getting this done? Are there any online places that can order a WB test? Thanks for all your help!

You can get the herpes WB thru quest. It's test # 34534. Your provider needs to order it.

I don't know where to get another better test done. I have been searching for Biokits and cant find anything. The original test was done at Labcorp and I do have a Quest just down the street. Do Quest and Labcorp use the same tests? Is a higher number mor indicative of a positive test? Thanks!

You should always confirm your hsv2 igg's with a different test if you haven't had obvious symptoms.  We recommend either the biokit hsv2 igg blood test or the herpes WB as a way to confirm your status.
