Western Blot before 16 weeks

Western Blot before 16 weeks

Hello,  I was diagnosed with HSV 2 mid December.  My boyfriend at the time won't have it that I may have contracted it from him. I am not looking to place any blame, I'd like to know the possibility of where I may have contracted this so I can let that person know, incase they don't know (asymptomatic).

Is there a test I can do to work out how long the virus has been in my system? If I may have contracted it a while ago and not have known or if my initial OB was when I contracted the virus? I was with BF 3 days before I started showing symptoms. I've never had any symptoms before.

I am on valtrex suppressive therapy since my first OB seemed to consist of non stop OBs since I first showed symptoms.  It was a vicious attack that affected my bladder and feet along with nausea, extreme tiredness and fever as well as the usual blisters. I seem to have come good now and am down to just one valtrex tablet per day.  Would this mask my results of finding out how long I have had this?  If I do the Western blot before 16 weeks knowing from an initial swab test will it mean reduced antibodies and there for indicate a recent infection?

Thanks,

How were you diagnosed with HSV 2?
Have you had any antibody testing done that indicates HSV 2 negative?  The only way you can document a first infection is to have a negative antibody test followed by a positive antibody test.  This would indicate that in between, you mounted an immune response to a recent infection.  has your boyfriend been tested for herpes?

Yes, taking medicine every day since first infection may well throw off your western blot.

If you did have a positive swab test for HSV 2 and you do a western blot and it is positive for HSV 2, it can tell you nothing about when you got infected.  if you had a positive swab test for HSV 2 and a negative antibody test for HSV 2 and then, went off meds and had a positive antibody test for HSV 2, this would prove first infection, assuming you had no other partners in between.

Is that too confusing?
