Wet washcloth

2 days ago I had protected sex with a friend that I did not know was HSV 2 positive. She said she just had an outbreak and found out. She may have not healed completely when we had sex. She wasn't sure. I've tested negative in my last exam and wasn't active before this. Once we were done she went into the bathroom and gave me a damp rag. She said it was her rag but it was clean. I don't know whether to believe her since she didn't even mention the herpes to begin with. Question is can I get herpes from that washcloth? I patted my penis with it to get the lubricant from the condom off. Didn't scrub hard or anything. I read you can get herpes from a washcloth.

No, you won't get herpes from a wash cloth. The sex act itself was the risk, not using a wash cloth.

Protected sex does help lower the risk of hsv2 for you but if she had active lesions, not so much. Should you get any obvious genital lesions within the next 2 weeks, go to be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing. If you don't get symptoms and need peace of mind, follow up with a type specific herpes igg blood test 3 months from now.

Thanks! We had sex through my boxer shorts and I used a condom. I don't think any skin was exposed or we made rubbing contact that way. Do you think that helps with transmission risk there and where would the sores appear if any? What makes the encounter more or less risky if you don't come in contact with the sores?
