. I went and got it cultured and had bloodwork done to get a full STD screening and both the culture and the bloodwork came back negative. The outbreak was gone within 5 days. 8 months later however, I just got out of having a laproscopy and my immune system was down, and I had another outbreak but this time was incredibly bad and painful
and it was all black. I couldn't walk, I couldn't sleep and I couldn't even think of going to the bathroom. I started Valtrex and then ended up getting it cultured again 3 or 4 days later. The culture came back negative again. There was a lot of the infected area that was swabbed for the culture, so what are the chances that this is another false negative? I've been trying to find out about my blood work that was sent in 2 days after I started the Valtrex, but is the bloodwork gonna tell me if I have herpes because I was told that blood can't determine that. I'm just desperate for some answers and don't like being the guinea pig. Help me please.
if you have been tested over and over again and every things comes back negative then stop taking the medicine. are you seeing a regular doctor or a gynecologist? you may want to go see a specialist and see if you have something else.
The first blood test and lesion culture being negative should've been followed up with additional blood testing several months later. are you still with the same partner? have they been tested for herpes?
frankly it was a waste of time and money to culture your "recurrence" a few days into valtrex. recurrences shed for less time in general and the valtrex decreased shedding even more. at this point you need to follow up on this properly with a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your status is. If it's only hsv1+, unless you can recall a history of cold sores, the best thing to do is if you get a recurrence again, be seen within 48 hours for culturing and don't start any valtrex at all until after the culture to try to rule out hsv1 genitally too.
