What are the odds of contracting oral herpes if there are no visible signs of an outbreak?
I kissed someone about a month ago and have not had any visual signs of an outbreak. I have however, been having slight pains around my neck area, but no swelling. Is it possible to contract herpes even if there are no visible cold sores? URGENT.
It IS possible, but the chances are significantly reduced. I'm actually going through the same scare, right now. There was contact, but she wasn't having an outbreak (she didn't tell me she had it until afterward). Your symptoms don't sound very serious or definitely indicative of being infected, but I know EXACTLY how you feel. Me saying any of that probably isn't doing anything to ease you, and I completely understand; I'm the same way.
Here's my situation: I had contact in mid-September, got tested in late October (came back negative), and am going back for my second (hopefully negative and conclusive) test in mid-January. I haven't had an outbreak, but I've been hyper-analyzing every little itch, pain, and burn with freakish stress and nervousness. It doesn't help knowing that those infected actually stand a high chance of never having an outbreak. I made my own thread asking about my chances (being an eczema sufferer) of having an outbreak.
Now that the scary stuff is out of the way, the good news is that, statistically, your chances are pretty good. I would suggest going for an IgG bloodtest now, getting those results, and going again in about three months. Heck, if you've never been tested, there's a chance you had it even before this. Most people have HSV1 (the virus that causes oral herpes), and most of those people don't even know or show symptoms. It's a very common ailment and definitely won't make you a freak or inhibit your life much; most people consider it a minor inconvenience.
If you want more information on symptoms and statistics of transmission, the internet is rife with them. The Wiki for herpes is a good place to start. I hope everything turns out well for you! If you've got anymore questions that your search results don't answer, I've been frantically scouring the internet about this for nearly four months, so feel free to ask. Lol.
Thanks so much for responding and understanding! Its good to know that there are people out there who understand what I'm going through and can offer advice. This has been troubling me for so long and I too have hyper-analyzed every pain and itch. Its strange because I also suffer eczema.. Thanks again!!
I thought I should, now knowing that you're an eczema sufferer, also chip in that eczema suffers are more susceptible to HSV infections. So, we're in quite the same boat. Lol. I've been worried SICK (literally, in one or two cases).
Still, it's comforting to know that I haven't had an outbreak, yet, and it has been three months since contact. Sure, I've had "symptoms", but all of them can be attributed to much more likely causes (pimples, facial hair stubble being itchy, etc.). I would LIKE to believe, since eczema sufferers have a sensitivity to the virus, that I would have had an outbreak by now if I was infected. I don't know that for sure, though, which is what my thread is about.
As I said, before, though, your chances are really good (same as mine, probably). I've learned (pretty much just this morning, ha ha) to just not worry about it while still practicing caution until you get a conclusive result. Unless I start developing obvious symptoms like blisters, there's no way of knowing if I have it until I get my second IgG bloodtest. Sure, you should try to mentally and emotionally prepare yourself for the worst, in case it does happen, but take solace in the fact that odds are it won't happen.
Looks like we're siblings in suffering. Lol. I'll be on this board, so just post on this thread whenever you want to talk about it. It'll help the both of us out. We at-risk of herpes eczema sufferers gotta stick together. :)
so if you have these blister like lesions near your mouth or cold sore it definitely is herpes? which IGG test do you need? my IGG levels were normal except low IGG3. I'm worried I would never be able to kiss anyone now
where do you get the 60% stat?
Can you give the virus by just kissing your boyfriend sometimes, and making out with them? Also even if your not having an outbreak can you still give to someone by just a peck on the lips? And if a guy gets your saliva from kissing is the virus in your mouth? If you only get them on your lips and not in your mouth can you still have the hsv 1 in your saliva PLEASE answer my questions even thoe I have a lot sorry
