What are these white bumps on the side of my tongue?

I usually get cold sores when I am under stress, but about a week and a half ago, I developed a cold sore on my lip that healed, but then white bumps only on the side of my tongue formed. They cause no pain at all. The doctor said it was still the herpes simplex virus 1, but I am scared because they have not healed yet or shown signs of improvement.
