Recently I had some blood work done to check for STD's and my HSV-2 value came back as 1.3. Does this mean I have herpes 2? If so, can it increase over time or will that number stay the same? The doctor said there is a chance it could be a false positive but I am not sure. Below is the Interpretive Criteria from the test, and I have had NO outbreaks in my life:
Herpes 1/2 Type Specific IgG
HSV-1 Type Specific IgG
HSV-1 IgG less than 0.2 less than 0.90 INDEX
HSV-2 Type Specific IgG
HSV-2 IgG 1.3H more than 0.90 INDEX
Interpretive Criteria
less than 0.90.....Antibody not detected
0.90-1.10.......Equivocal; submission of a second specimen 3-4 weeks after initial specimen if clinically warranted,
more than 1.10........Antibody detected
Should I request another blood test? I've read that a BioKit or Western Blot test may be more accurate. Please help.
