and on my inner thigh. I have never had an outbreak on my genitals, just on my inner thigh. Is it possible that I had Whitlow first and transferred it to myself?
activity. Oh and one more thing. I am pregnant with my second child and I didn't even know it was HSV on my thigh with the first one. Any chance you may be able to give me some idea if the pregnancy is causing more outbreaks. I have counted at least 6 so far this year. Thanks!!!!
since 1995. But when I first noticed it on my thigh I thought it was just infected hairs. That was about 3 years ago now. Since I have been pregnant, I have had more breakouts. My husband has not been tested as he doesn't have any lesions. To be honest, I didn't even know you could without having them. The OB said that since we know it is HSV it didn't matter if it was 1 or 2. Do you think that makes a difference? If so, I am sure I can get her to send another sample as I seem to have an outbreak at least once a month.
Oh and Grace... Thank you for doing this. You have helped ease a lot of people's questions with your knowledge.
and genitals both and up until a few years ago never had noticeable ob's in the genital area to know that you also had it there or if you had it on your finger first and managed to give it to yourself genitally. Not a whole heck of a lot of folks have whitlow only for us to easily study if it offers as much protection against contracting it elsewhere later on like it does if you have it orally or genitally. Most folks have whitlow and either oral herpes or genital herpes. At this point since you are pregnant, knowing you have it genitally is what matters the most. No obvious lesions at the time of delivery and the risk of transmitting to your baby is less than 1%. Taking suppressive therapy in the pregnancy doses the last month, puts the odds in favor of not having a genital recurrence so that you can delivery vaginally.
Definitely your partner needs tested to see what his status is. Why take precautions and worry about transmission to him if he has it too? Also since you don't know what type you have, definitely pursue finding that out so that once this baby is born, easier for you and your hubby to decide if it's worth precautions or not at this point.
keep asking questions as you have them and congrats on your pregnancy :)
