Wife has herpes husband neg

I have been married for 7+ years and have had unprotected sex with my wife since we were married.  I have been tested for all STDs and HIV for the last 12 years at my annual physical and have only ever been positive for HSV-1 which I have had since I was a child.  Last November 09 was my last physical and neg for all STDs positive HSV-1.  March of 2010 my wife had a full STD test and was positive for HSV-2.  She had never been tested before she said and this was news to her and that she has never had an outbreak.  I was retested April 2010 and still Neg HSV-2.  Is it possible for her to have had this during the 7 years we have been married and for me to remain neg?  The doctor said that she could have caught this at a young age and that is why she never knew about it or had an outbreak that she remembered.

thank you for getting those for me.

yes she was properly tested and her hsv2 igg is above the typical false positive range so no need for any additional testing.

your wife had this prior to meeting you.  I recommend you both read the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com if you haven't already and then discuss together if you feel the  need to take any precautions other than just avoiding sex anytime she has anything going on genitally. You've seen for yourselves the low risk of transmission and that was with taking no precautions at all. Just avoiding sex whenever she has anything going on genitally, will go a long way in keeping odds in your favor.

yes indeed it is possible.

I can best help if you can get your wife's blood test results to post here. that way I can be sure that she was properly tested and see if her results are within the range where additional confirmatory testing is warranted or not.  All I need to see are the actual numeric results - ie hsv1 igg 5.5 and hsv2 igg 2.4 or whatever they are.
