I made a huge mistake and slept with someone that wasn’t my husband. I have been married 6 years. I have never before this man cheated on my husband. I am now worried sick. I have talked with my husband and the other man about what is going on.
Almost 2 weeks ago on the 18th I had unprotected sex
with twice before in June. Things got a little heated...anyway I didn't think anything about it till the next day (Friday) when I noticed that my perineum was really sore. When I look with a mirror it just look a little red. I just brushed it off as left over soreness from the day before. But on Sunday it was still sore and looked like I had a 2 small cracks in the skin. I went in to my ob who did my pap
and tested for HSV. He said that it looked like the skin had been pulled and then popped, creating the breaks in the skin. He told me it didn't look like HSV, due to the fact there were no Lesions, sores, or discharge
and that we would culture the breaks just for peace of mind. When he did the culture he rubbed hard enough causing me to bleed. So the culture he sent was blood. My results came back yesterday. The culture came back positive for HSV. The nurse stated that they didn’t type it. My questions are:
1: Since there were no lesions/fluid present, could the positive result have come from my blood?
2: My husband has oral HSV-1, I know it can be transmitted thru oral sex
, but if my positive result came from my blood. Is it a possibility that it isn’t genital herpes?
3: I am going tomorrow for blood work. Since my ob didn’t type the culture what can I really learn from the blood work.
4: If it does come back positive for HSV ½, that means that my unprotected sex
with the other man didn’t infect me right? Also if that is the case, I don’t ever remember having a breakout, is it uncommon to go 6 or more years and not have a breakout that you can’t remember?
Also it has now been a week and one day since my culture has been done and the breaks or cracks in my skin are now healed and gone. So that makes me trust even more that it wasn’t an outbreak.
herpes is not a blood borne infection. your culture didn't come back + because you have herpes in your blood. give the clinic a call back and ask if they can call the lab to see if they have the specimen to type it. much faster answers as to type which is important.
you had a + lesion culture. you know you have genital herpes. it wouldn't have come back + if you didn't actually have active herpes present on the skin at the time of the culture.
at this point you and your partners should all seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to see who has what. I really wouldn't be surprised if this is a recurrence of herpes for you and not a newly acquired infection from your description of your symptoms. getting the blood test tomorrow will help answer that question too. when you get your test results, write them down to post here and I can best help you - e.g. hsv1 igg 6.9 and hsv2 igg 3.7 or whatever they are are all I need to see.
