Worried I Contracted Herpes

Hi everyone. 3 days ago I idiotically had sex with a sex worker. Since that moment I've been having extreme anxiety about possibly contracting herpes. I used a condom, but I know that does little to protect from this. About 3 or 4 hours later I started noticing a tingling on the right side of my groin, close to my scrotum. The tingling has been constant for the past 3 days. I also developed two canker sores in my mouth, 1 under my tongue where I had bitten it pretty severely 4 days ago, and another on my cheek. I'm a regular coffee drinker, haven't had a cup since Tuesday since I'm trying not to eat or drink anything acidic because of the canker sores. Today I've noticed a bit of post nasal drip, and my throat is a bit dry and sore on the right side. I can't tell if my glands on my neck are swollen on that side or not. If they are it's not by much.

I'm having terrible anxiety that these are symptoms of having been recently infected. I was also misdiagnosed visually with herpes about 10 months ago at a local clinic. My general doctor later assured me it was nothing to worry about and took swabs of the bump I'd had and blood test. Both came back negative. I'd even requested the swab test be done again after the initial results came back negative and that was also negative. Now I'm having all  those same feelings again from that experience. Is this simply my own anxiety mixed with withdrawals from caffeine? I'm trying to hang in there until I reach the time frame to have tests done, but I know that is quite a bit of a wait unless lesions appear.

I'd greatly appreciate anyone's thoughts on all of this. Thanks.

It's never a bad idea to get sometbing looked at. Tbat being said please try and relax and breathe. Again your chances from this exposure are incredibly low and bumps, pimples and ingrown hairs happen all the time. I am confident your bump isn't hsv. Let me know what the doc says

Thank you for your support. I was misdiagnosed visually by a doctors assistant in the past, which was later confirmed a misdiagnosis by two separate swan cultures and a blood test. This is just all too real for me right now.

Cold symptoms are not hsv. Flu like symptom like fever, body aches and swollen lymph nodes.  These symptoms start after lesions begin to appear.

Well today I noticed a small red bump at the base of my penis. I can't tell if it's on a hair follicle or beside it. It's a little sore and irritated but doesn't hurt really bad. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow. I'm really upset and freaking out.

Thanks for the quick response. It's mainly the sore throat coming up yesterday that really started making me worry. Your response is reassuring though. Having to wait to be tested to really no for sure is causing me a lot of stress thought.

Sorry for the spelling. It's way past my bed time. It should have said 1 in a 1000.

Well I'm definitely having cold symptoms today: post-nasal drip, glands on the right side side of my neck are a little tender, throat a little sore. My nose was a little stuffed when I woke up but isn't so bad now. These sunrooms are making me freak out. My roommate said he has had a sore throat for a week or so but this is just too much of a coincidence that I'm feeling ill 3 or 4 days after having sex.

Hi
I will try to help  with your concerns.I don't see by post why you think you were exposed orally?
Condom protected sex works very well against all std including hsv. Your penis is protected so you would have to have contracted ir on your pubic area and that not as common as you think. Even if she had hsv and you had unprotected sex your chances are very low. 1 in a 100 for a single exposure of unprotected sex. Add a condom and you can effectively bring that number closser to zero.
We get a ton of these exact questions on this forum and to my knowledge I can't recall anyone turning up possitive from a single protected exposure from a csw. Your symptoms are far more stress related than hsv.
Hope this helps a little
