Would this count as transmitting a cold sore virus?

a few weeks ago, my friend borrowed my chapstick and like 20 minutes later I used it after him.   Then today he comes to school with a red rash on the very botton part of his nose and when someone asks him about it, he says its herpes.  Now i know you can get cold sores if it goes from the infected person's lips to mine, but technically it wasnt on his lip, but above his mouth. am i at risk? PLEASE HELP

I am not certain, but it would be low risk like sharing cups... and you mentioned it was below his nose not on his lips.

I wouldn't share chapstick... simply because chapped lips are like small open cuts which is getting on the personal side in my opinion.
