Wrong Meds?

I recently tested positive for HSV2. Doc put me on Generic Valtrex for supressive therapy. I took 500mg once a day for about a week. The sore from OB has never been so bad or lasted so long. 6 days ago I started 500mg twice a day and still no relief. Could I be immune to the Valtrex? How long should it take to get relief? Awaiting call back from Doc but holidays and all...

Can I take both Lysine and the Valtrex? I bought some Lysine but was afraid to take both. I love nuts and read about the arganine vs lysine. Any ideas?

Get yourself some Lysine. It's just as effective and way cheaper... also GOOD for you. :)

Unfortunately, early in the diagnosis, the antivirals can seem ineffective, since the body has not yet generated enough antibodies to help fight the virus. However, this does not mean they're not working and possibly helping to mitigate the effects.

Do report back to your doctor that the prescription is not helping, and that you may need to (a) double your dose, (b) try the brand name itself (Valtrex, rather than the generic valacyclovir) or (c) try an entirely different antiviral. Acyclovir works best for me and for many others, for example.

I hope you find relief soon. There may be over-the-counter topicals that will help with the discomfort. I've heard that folks sometimes use the oral herpes ointments with success. Good luck to you!

Hi, with valtrex for first time outbreaks the recommended dosage is 1000mg twice a day for ten days.
