Yeast infection or herpes?

by hellewise, Apr 11, 2009 06:28AM
I'm sorry to ask yet again question about yeast infections and herpes. My story goes like this: I had a one night stand (unprotected )with someone and 2 or 3 days later broke out in a rash that was itchy but not painful. I took the morning after pill and there was a bit of a yellowish weird discharge. And then my period came about 10 days after i took the morning after pill and i couldn't go for the gynae appointment that i booked. So finally after 13 days i went to a gynae who took a swab of my discharge and sent it for testing . When she gave me my  physical examination she said that it was a bacterial infection and inserted medicine into my vagina, she also gave me medicine to use for about 6 days. During this 6 days, there was still itching and a lil bit of discharge and on one day something that look like pus?  Using the antibiotics to be inserted into the vagina is extremely uncomfortable. The test came out and she said that it was a yeast infection. Is this herpes? Because i have heard that its the most comonly misdiagnosed  as a yeast infection. Or Trichomoniasis infection? Or could it be herpes and a yeast infection?

She didnt test me for Trichomoniasis and i ve tested negative for gonnorhea and clymidia.

Did you ever treat for yeast after the test came back as + for yeast?

They would've said you had trich if you had tested + for it. the medication they gave you for the presumed bacterial infection covered that anyways.

If you want to know if you have herpes, at this point all you can do is wait and get a type specific herpes igg blood test 4 months after the encounter in question. If you get a return of symptoms before then, see your provider within 48 hours of their appearance for another work up.

thanks so much for your reply grace.
I'm getting treatment for the yeast infection now which i dont really think is a yeast infection because the symptoms dont resemble a normal yeast infection. I have had yeast infection before and it was never like this. I always had classic yeast infection symptoms. which is why  i'm extremely worried that i may have herpes. Do most people generate antibodies after 6 weeks? what are the stats?

There is more than 1 type of yeast that can cause issues down yonder and they won't always present in the same way.  Your provider tested for yeast and found yeast so it should be treated.  I also recommend following up again with your provider 2 weeks after you are done treating for yeast for re-evaluation to see if you thoroughly cleared up your yeast infection and bv. If you feel you need tested for anything else at that time, ask for it.
