alternative ned?

I've had herpes I & II for years (like 16). At first I had reaccurent outbreaks constantly. My doctor prescribes acyclovir 400mg 2x a day on a preventive mode. It's been a few years since I've had an outbreak. Right now there seems to be a shortage of acyclovir. Valtrex seems to be expensive. Will valtrex be my only other alternative?

there is a shortage of the ingredients needed to make acyclovir and has been for quite some time now.  Check around with various pharmacies to see where you can get it right now. The shortage should be almost over though evidently the west coast of the US especially is still having a hard time getting it.

valtrex or famvir are other alternatives. also sometimes you can get acyclovir in 200mg tablets or 800mg tablets and just take more pills as needed or cut the 800mg's in half.
