blood test for herpes

by thejoe, Feb 13, 2009 08:38PM
I had sex with a girl who has a HSV-2..she told me after !!!!
anyway, I used condom, but we had oral sex too
the first time was like a 7 weeks ago..and we used to meet every weekend to have sex till 2 weeks ago.we stop doing that when she told me about her HSV-2

and I don't see any symptoms yet!! I Had a blood test 2  days ago..waiting for my result on monday
How accurate the result going to be if it negative or positive ??

like how long does it take the virus to get in my body THEN the test would me accurate..i heard I need to wait 4 months then take the test...is that right ??

Thanks

4 months is right - a lot will test positive sooner, but you do need to wait 4 months to have a conclusive test.

Keep in mind that the chances of you having hsv2 is very very small.  You used condoms, and I'm guessing she wasn't having symptoms.  If you had a long term relationship with her, you'd have about a 96% chance of NOT getting it if all you did was avoid sex when she had symptoms.  If you all used condoms, it would be about a 98% chance.

Since this relationship lasted under 2 months, chances are really really good that you didn't get it.  Also, hsv2 orally is rare, so I wouldn't worry about that at all.

awwww...thnks
u have no idea how did that make me feeeeel way better now..still waiting for the result
and yeah, she had no symptoms, and she is under the daily medicine..I guess that would reduce the chance to get it too right ?!

so I guess if I got it Negative, I don't really need to do the test again unless I saw symptoms on me right ?!

thnx

So you ended this relationship just because she has hsv2 or because she waited to tell you about it or other reasons?

because she lied to me so many times..and this is one of the lies
when we first started dating, she told me she is STD-free
and she told me about the HSV-2 after 7 weeks !!!
by why u interested in the reason ?!

I would retest in about 2 more months. If she infected u 7 weeks ago thats not long enough time for the antibodies to show up on the blood test. And yes i think i would break up with someoen if they lied to me about this. I feel bad having sex with 2 other guys while i had type 2 & i had no slight clue i had it. I couldnt sleep with someone and not tell them.

The reason I asked was if it was just a fear of hsv2, I was going to provide more info for you on why your risk overall was so low. Since it was a combination of reasons why, I don't see the point of going into it though.

Since your first blood test was only 2 weeks after the last time you had sex, I'd err on the side of caution and repeat it at the 4 month post encounter mark just to be sure.

Why would his overall risk have been low?
