I also retested the new score was 1.4
I have been having daily pain in my groin area and wired feelings in my butt and back of my leg does have to do with herpes?
It's uncommon but it can happen.
I saw u said not oral so even if I'm taking Valtrex I can't receive oral anymore. Will it pass to her orally?
She was just tested and she is negative for both. I will retest soon your right more then likely I'm positive but I should do one last test to make sure. We will also discuss stopping the Valtrex I think it really makes her more conformable knowing I'm taking a pill daily. She has been doing her research and knowing the pill can decease shedding in half if that is true makes it easier
If you want 100% certainty against transmission, then no sex at all except mutual masturbation and oral sex on your partner. But no penetration, even with condoms. (Condoms are very good, but nowhere near 100% protection against HSV, because of possible viral shedding and skin contact above the condom.) However, maybe 100% isn't something you and your partner should insist on. When a relationship is strong, committed, and likely permanent, couples often make no special attempt to prevent transmission. Obviously, this is something to discuss with your partner. Also, she should be testted. If by chance she already has a positive HSV2 blood test, your worries are over: she would be immune to new infecitons with HSV2.
Another thing: Since you used a condom with your casual partner and also have had no symptoms, it is possible you don't have HSV2 after all. The blood test isn't perfect, and low-positive results (under 3.5) often are false. If you really have HSV2, a third test should be even more strongly positive, probably over 3.5. So have one more test after you have passed 3 months since the casual sexual contact when you might have been infected. (Not to overly raise your hopes. With a value of 2.3, most likely your positive result was valid. But best to know for certain!)
I didn't start valacyclovir till 4 weeks after exposure. I have been thinking about getting off for that reason to see what the severity or frequency will be. Would I have to stop sex all together or just use a condom every time which is fine because we always use one anyway. I used one the night I was infected but I guess that didn't work.
Most people with new HSV2 infections eventually have genital area outbreaks with symptoms. However, it may not happen as long as you are taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). If you and your partner can agree to not have sex for several weeks (i.e. no vaginal, oral or anal penetration), you could consider stopping the drug. While early treatment can indeed prevent outbreaks and transmission, it makes it difficult or impossible to judge the natural course, i.e. the frequency and severity of outbreaks without treatment. You can always start a brief course of treatment if and when an outbreak occurs, and also can later restart ongoing suppressive therapy.
This approach isn't right for everyone, and it could be risky if you're not sure you can your partner can avoid the temptation to have unprotected intercourse.
Taking Valtrex daily and using condoms what is the likely hood I'll pass it to my partner?
I wish i had an answer for you. My burn has been going on for 2.5 months no blisters. I feel terrible pretty much everyday.. This is a terrible virus that I'm not sure anyone has a handle on.
Should I be expecting a outbreak soon or will I ever have one?
No it wasn't from her I had a one night stand so I'm guessing it was from her because my girlfriend is negative. Johnny20 I've had the burning on and off ever since.
Howard do you believe in the theory that a high igg score (like 30) indicates a infection that has been there for sometime?
Thanks for clarifying. Despite the atypical features (no overt blisters or open sores), conversion of your HSV2 IgG test from negative to a score of 2.3 confirms you were infected. As I just said in another thread, there are exceptions to every rule.
From whom did you acqure your HSV2 infection? If your girlfriend was your only partner in the 2-3 weeks before symptoms started, then she has to be the source. That means she cannot catch HSV2 from you again and you don't need to take any precautions. She should have a blood test, if that hasn't been done yet.
I got those symptoms 2 weeks after my in counter so I went to the doctor first test was negative second test at 6 weeks was positive so they gave me Valtrex to help reduce risk of passing the virus to my current partner.
So you are positive for hsv2 with no blisters? The people on this board believe that is not possible and your other symptoms are not herpes related would be my guess. I'm looking forward to a response from others.
Positive hsv2 score 2.3 I had lost of appetite null pain in my butt and down the back of my leg and lower back pain burning on shaft but no bumps
No worries -- herpes is not likely to be transmitted to skin anywhere on the body, breast or anywhere else; and not likely to be transmitted through semen.
I might be able to give better advice if you'd like to give more details about your test results. Positive for HSV1 or HSV2? Include the test numbers if you have them. Do you have symptoms of oral or genital herpes?
