can any foods trigger herpes outbreaks?

Mmy new significant other avoids foods with oats and nuts, because he has read these can trigger herpes outbreaks. I love to bake healthy things. Any medical evidence that supports his fears? Are there any foods that can trigger outbreaks of genital herpes?

There is no scientific data to support avoiding certain foods to avoiding triggering outbreaks.  Some early studies, in the lab (not in people) suggested that feeding the virus arginine, an amino acid, encouraged growth and lysine, a competing amino acid, slowed growth of the herpes virus.  But this has not proven to be true in humans.  I would recommend that your partner eat normally, but perhaps keep a log of what he eats and a calendar of outbreaks, and see if there is any relationship between what he eats and outbreaks.

I'm sorry that you had to wait over the weekend for a response.  My daughter had a baby and I took the weekend to be with her.  No, MedHelp is not a rip off

I paid $20 to have my question answered by a doctor. Can I expect an individual E-mail to answer it, or do I have to keep checking here daily? Is MedHelp a rip-off?
