can oral herpes be misdiagnosed as strep throat?

i recently had oral sex with someone (1.5 weeks ago) he had no visible signs of herpes ...

about 4 days ago i came down with a bad fever, sore throat, swollen painful lymph nodes and sore/swollengums ... the nurse i saw said it was strep throat and put me on penicillin ... the fever has been coming and going for the past 3 days bringing with it extreme fatigue. today i feel like i have developed these bumps in my lower lip and after a bit of online looking up have convinced myself its the start of herpes ... can someone tell me if it's possible i've been misdiagnosed?

does one typically get a fever before or after the outbreak? how long does a fever last that is associated with herpes?

Did you have a throat culture that was + for strep?  That's the most accurate way to diagnose strep throat.

If you have new symptoms, return to your provider.
