Many doctors not in the STD or infectious disease field are unfamiliar with the details of HSV testing. There is at least a 50% chance you don't have HSV2.
Thanks I hope that is the case. It's just when I asked the doctor if it was a possibility that it was false she didn't seem very optimistic.
Most HSV2 result in this low range are false, even though technically positive. Most likely you aren't infected. Fungal infections have nothing to do with it; urban myth. The way to sort this out is to first have another stnadard test; if this one is negative, you can rely on that result and stop worrying. If it's also weakly positive (ELISA index under 3.5), talk to your doctor about arranging for an HSV Western blot test, the ultimate gold standard for HSV antibody testing.
