can yeast do this? bad coincidence?

can yeast do this? bad coincidence?

I apologize in advance for the plethora of questions. Here's the background:
I have had unprotected sex with a new partner 1 month ago. Just in the past week I have developed a sore, itchy and burning vagina. A couple days after I noticed that I had some small cuts or cracks on the perenium of my vagina right near the opening. I thought this could be from rough unlubricated sex (I can sometimes get pretty dry) or scratching myself badly because of my supposed yeast infection. Also, I had started taking antibiotics for a sinus infection around the time this started happening and i skipped my placebos on my birth control to skip my period

I have since went  to the doctor. They found yeast on the wet prep mount and I was treated with diflucan. I am already feeling better and the itching and burning has just about gone away and the cuts are starting to go away but still there. I had the cracks swabbed and sent away for testing but I know its useless to do the IgG blood test because its only really been a month. Heres my load of questions.

I  know herpes is often misdiagnosed as a yeast infection. Do practitioners often misdiagnose even with yeast on the wet mount? Im sure its possible to have both, do you think that yeast infections can cause little cracks/cuts like that? If yeast was found on the mount then that's what it should be, right? Im just nervous because I know that there's a good chance my swab may give a false negative, especially since it wasn't swabbed until 5 days after they appeared.

The cuts/cracks are painful at times and sometimes bleed. Can herpes bleed?

Ive noticed on here before that you say usually outbreaks happen around a couple of days to 1.5 weeks after exposure and that its rare for outbreaks to occur 1 month after exposure. How much possibility that it lays dormant then springs up? I know it does just wondering if that happens a lot?

Yes, yeast can definitely cause little breaks and cuts in the skin, and if the labia is pretty read all around, that is a more likely explanation.  And it is also unusual that first symptoms would show up so long after a first infection.  You could get a baseline antibody test now and repeat it when four months have passed if this one is negative.  At least would you know if you had it before this encounter.  I most often do that with my patients.

The yeast found on microscopy, the antibiotics around this time, and the latest of symptoms relative to possible infection really lead me in the direction of yeast, vs. herpes.
