can you contract HSV-2 non sexually?
i have always had hsv 1 orally keep in mind. late last july this sequence happened to me: i was on antibiotics, my partner performed oral sex on me when later found he had a fever blister, days went by when i thought i was getting a yeast infection then i had about 3 vaginal ulcers above near urethra area, so i went to the doctor freaking out b/c i've never had anything like this. they tested a culture, gave me a blood test and gave me valtrex. my pain and signs went away pretty much by the next day or so and both tests came back negative which i know was wrong as i have been type specific tested before and positive of hsv-1 orally since childhood. this was this past late july early august.
so recently, i went for my annual exam this mid february and got a blood test for hsv type specific and was positive for hsv-1 and negative for hsv-2. but then was called back for mild dysplasia and had some cells removed and put me on antibiotics. got a yeast and bacterial infection last week, after running a half marathon, and then an outbreak occurred. so the question is, could antibiotics or sickness in general be triggering my outbreaks? is it likely i have hsv-1 genital or have somehow caught hsv-2 within the last month but haven't been with anyone new since last july when i had that first episode? my first episode didn't seem as bad as this episode, however the sores were in the exact same spot and in number... could me taking the valtrex the day the blisters came last time have helped me to heal so fast last time?
also, should i get retested to find out if i have hsv 2 now b/c my ob-gyn says he thinks since i got blood tested weeks ago and was neg for hsv 2 that i may have just recently contracted it but non-sexually since i haven't been with anyone at all since last year. he doesn't seem to think i have caught hsv 1 genitally b/c i have had hsv 1 orally for so long that i would've only caught what i don't have.
i hope you can help clarify.

You can get hsv 1 (this is what you have) lesions on your genitals! I have this problem and have been thoroughly tested. it can be contracted by saliva into a irritated spot on your body and then cause breakouts, a lowered immune system will cause a breakout any antibiotics will cause you a breakout at the end of the treatment. take Lysine or L-Lysine to keep it from happening and getting worse. I got mine and was still a virgin but had used my saliva while I had a cold sore to moisten a tampon before insertion I had a cold sore at the time and a sore on my vulva from a bike accident. this happens most common in young men who masturbate to much using their saliva as a lubricant.
i have got hsv2 but my girlfriend's result is negative .... and i never had any kind of sexcual contact with any girl.. please help me... i have no idea without any sexcual contact how i got hsv2 ??
I've been married for. 9 years now and about 9 months ago I was diagnosed with hsv2. I have not had any sexual partners since I've been married and my husband has been tested 3x and results are negative. I've been researching and can't find any other explanation other than it basically only spread sexually. The nobly thing I did was shave my vagina bare instead of trim. If I have had this from my prior sexual encounters before my marrige then why don't my kids or husband have it??? My husband is basically leaving me because he thinks I've cheated n him but if I did I wouldn't even be one here tring to find an answer.
did your provider do a lesion culture? any other testing?
if you had contracted herpes from kissing a friend/family member, you would've had oral symptoms, not genital symptoms. The virus does not enter through the oral area and then travel down to cause genital symptoms. it's a contact virus . if you had developed systemic herpes, you would've had herpes symptoms in other body parts ( internally - i.e. csf, brain, liver, lungs etc ), not in the genitals. In general for adults, you don't contract herpes orally from social kisses - just romantic type kisses like you have with your partner, not friends and family.
Please don't hesitate to post to Terri Warren , the herpes expert here on medhelp if you doubt what we say ( since you have to pay, wait until you have all test results back to make sure herpes is even going on for you genitally ). Herpes is not a blood born illness - it's transmitted via skin to skin contact. It does not travel through the bloodstream to other areas of your body. That being said, a blood test does not test for the virus itself, but for HSV antibodies that would be present in the blood.
If you and your husband have never had any other sexual partners, HSV2 is not a possibility.
As Grace stated, this is most likely something else going on genitally. You'd need to be tested for bacteria and yeast as well when you have symptoms, not just herpes.

At the moment no blood work, She examined an active breakout. I've got a strong enough science background to know that you don't get diseases transmitted in bodily fluid from inanimate objects and I would have laughed if she had suggested as much. Her suggestion was more of a non-sexual physical contact like intimate friends and family relationships or high contact sports. That at least sounded reasonable that I could have picked up the virus kissing a family member I thought had regular cold sores and then once it was in my blood had an outbreak when my own immune system was low. And the fact is there simply is no one else in my sexual history.
your provider is wrong if they think that you contracted genital herpes in a non-sexual manner. it just doesn't happen that way. this isn't something you get from a toilet!

I don't have any answers but I do know that I just went in to the doctor today and was diagnosed with herpes. My husband and I are each others only sexual partners ever (in the strictest definition, down to first kiss), not to mention he's currently deployed so I have had zero recent sexual encounters to trigger an onset. My doctor told me not to worry about how I contracted it or even when (racking my memory for similar "irritations" that i could remember she suspects I've had it for a long time) she did not specifically list non sexual ways to get it (other than simple lip to lip kissing like between family members)but did not seem at all doubtful that it was non sexual. Since its inevitable that my husband either has already or will certainly get it from me I'm tempted to encourage him to be tested before he returns to see if I contracted since hes been gone or if we've both had it all this time without either of us realizing it.
Odds are this is something else going on. Your lesion cultures are being done in a timely enough manner and are negative twice now. Your blood tests are negative. Your symptoms go away too quickly too for herpes.

then one more question, i've been given two culture tests each time for the outbreak and both times were negative cultures... but when i asked my doctor he seems to think it's to hard to get a good culture tested accurately anyway... is it really that hard? both times i've gone to get a culture/viral test i went that day blisters came up. it's just hard to believe i don't have genital hsv when my doctor makes me feel like i'm the crazy one for thinking i don't when he says all the signs say i have it, ya know?

at this point, you know you have hsv1 orally which sheds more often than hsv1 genitally does anyways. until proven otherwise, assume your hsv1 is just oral. should genital symptoms ever reoccur, be seen promptly and if they suspect herpes again, a lesion culture of active symptoms is the best way to settle this for you.

ok, so i posted this a while back and i wanted to ask another question regarding the results. after getting yet another hsv blood test done the results were negative for hsv-2 and positive for hsv1 so my doctor believes i have contracted genital hsv 1. however, my question is this: i insist i have always had cold sores and positive for hsv 1 but my doctor says that i may have thought i have but i could not have b/c of my recent hsv 1 genital diagnosis b/c he says if i had already had hsv 1 the antibodies wouldn't have allowed me to contract genital hsv 1. is this true? is it not possible to contract genital hsv 1 despite already having hsv 1 orally?
you had yeast and bv going on at the same time. both can cause issues in the genital area. you didn't contract hsv2 non-sexually and you had your blood test done way long enough after the last time you had sex to know tha tyou don't have hsv2.

i guess i'm just concerned b/c i can't understand the reasons for the ulcerations then, could you maybe explain a little more? and what do i tell my doctor if he's convinced it's herpes? take another blood test so he won't think i've gotten hsv 2 non sexually? it's confusing b/c this is the second time i've had this outbreak now so why i was convinced it is in fact herpes. i hope it isn't but i can't explain what's going on and it's scary and confusing.
you have absolutely no reason to think that you have genital herpes at this point.

when i looked up vaginitis it all goes to herpes since the symptom was blisters. last year when i had an outbreak, how bad is a typical first outbreak when started on valtrex the day the blisters appear? I'm guessing this would be called my initial outbreak and now this recent my recurrent outbreak right?
vaginitis is an infection of the vagina. yeast infections are a form of vaginitis. You can also get bacterial vaginal infections commonly abbreviated as bv.

i don't know what vaginitis is but does it cause sores to form? i know each outbreak i've experienced starts by feeling like a yeast infection and so dry that the skin peels off. after two days i get the ulcers, both episodes in same area. when i took both the valtrex for the first outbreak and acyclovir for this one, the sores go away without drying out or scabbing or anything like it describes online, but maybe the meds allow it to heal better? doctor never mentioned any other possible diagnosis of this but herpes. if my culture comes out negative this time around then i'm back in the square one in figuring out if this is indeed genital herpes.

Your hsv1 oral infection gives you significant protection against contracting hsv1 genitally. Not 100% but it's close. A lesion culture of active symptoms is the only way to accurately diagnose hsv1 genitally.
