changes of giving genital herpes from a still invisible cold sore

by snaregirl, Jan 11, 2008 03:11PM
I have an extremely urgent question, which I've been freaking out about all day. Two nights ago I gave my boyfriend oral sex and the next day around 7pm I had the first visible symptoms of a cold sore (the little bubbles). I've had two cold sores before in my life and it had been two years since my last cold sore, so getting another one didn't even occur to me! I was also a virgin until recently so my boyfriend has always been completely trustful of me... I had no symptoms of the cold sore coming the day that I gave him oral sex (no tingle, no visible signs). What are the chances (please give me percentages) that I transmitted genital herpes to him from my not yet visible cold sore!??
He has been really depressed because we won't be able to find out in weeks and he is just thinking negatively. He was also freaking out because he might have had a tiny tiny almost invisible abrasion on the tip of his penis (we couldn't tell wether it was a vein or a tiny cut)
What are the chances of transmission if he had the abrasion? what are the chance of transmission if it wasn't an abrasion?

You were probably shedding the virus but that doesn't mean that he definitely contracted hsv1 genitally from you.  Hsv1 doesn't prefer the gneital area but obviously sometimes it infects there.  Has he ever been tested to know his own status to see if he already has hsv1 and never even realized it?

Also if you have to look that hard for symptoms - it's not herpes. If he contracted hsv1 from you genitally it's likely to present as a "classic" ob and trust me there' s no missing them.  Stop looking for signs so hard!
