cold sores...to genitals

I get cold sores, no big deal, lots of people do.   And I was/am aware that they are HIGHLY contagious, however, I was not aware they could be spread to other areas of the body.  I was just getting over a cold sore (the scabbing stage) when my guy and I started messing around.  Long story short, I preformed oral sex on him.  A very close friend informed me that I could spread my cold sore to my guy's genitals!  some research as confirmed this, but I cant seem to find a lot of info on the issue.  Can anyone tell me how likely it is that I may have spread it him?

Has he ever been tested to know his own herpes status?  Can he recall ever having a cold sore himself?

not that he s mentioned. we were both tested the general test before we hooked up.  but we ve know eachother for three years and hes never mentioned or have i noticed cold sores/ hsv1

Just because he's never mentioned it, doesn't mean he doesn't already have it. Most adults have hsv1 orally but only 20-40% of them ever get obvious cold sores to know it.

At this point my suggestions are - either take the wait and see approach and should he notice any obvious genital symptoms he should see his provider within 24-48 hours for proper evaluation and treatment or monday he can go and see his provider and get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what his status is to see if you even need to be worrying or not.
