concerned about herpes

Hi,

About 5 weeks ago I believe I received oral sex from a woman I did not know. The reason I say I believe is I was really intoxicated and blacked out a bit that night. Within a few days of the event I had felt nausious, lack of appetite (I have lost 12 lbs in the last month), feverish (but don't thnk I had a fever), and could not sleep. I have also periodically felt lower back pain/heat and tingling in lower right leg. I have no clue if these things mean anything? Those symtpoms have improved but I have had burning/sensitivity in the tip of my penis for 5 weeks now. I have been tested for stds twice with the last time being around 3 weeks after the event. Everything came back negative except for hsv 1. The problem I have is I have no clue if I have been hsv1 positive for years. I have not seen blisters, no burn when I pee, no swollen lymph nodes. I do feel a constant urge to urinate.  My gp gave me cipro for prostatitis and I have been taking it for a little over two weeks now but the pain in my penis has not improved. Lastly, I did test positive for h pylori. Does pain/burn in your penis for 5 weeks sound like herpes? Please help I'm mentally breaking down at this point.

This is absolutely what it means. Like more than half the population, you entered adulthood with an oral HSV1 infection.

This means you had essentially zero risk from a herpes infection for two main reasons:
- you have near perfect immunity from HSV1 infection of your genitals
- HSV2 orally is exceptionally rare and is not transmittable from the oral region without an active lesions present.

Your 3 month testing is now conclusive and tells you all you need to know. You were not infected with anything from the oral sex episode.

I just did another igg blood test last week 3 months after my incident.  Again positive for hsv1 score of 30 again? Negative for hsv2. It would seem to me a score of 30 19 days after incident then 30 again 3 mons later would mean a long term infection pre dating 3 mons ago. No real variability in my score. Any opinions would be appreciated - grace, life, Fleetwood,  howard? Thank you again for the feedback.

Try an anti-fungal powder(Zeasorb) for a couple weeks and see if it helps.  Same stuff that's used for athletes foot.  Sprinkle it on in the morning and at night.  Make sure it covers the whole area.  I can't say what it is or isn't, but fungal infection can burn like mad for a long time if not treated.  That area can be a consistently warm & moist area where fungus loves to breed.  At this point it cannot hurt to try.

Burning at tip of penis over 10 weeks. Should I take herpes meds to see if that helps?

Still burn at tip of penis. Should I just take valtrex or another herpes med? Would it even make the burn better? What else could it be?

Hsv1 is not very active in the genitals. Studies of hsv1 in genitals are not as common ( they are hard to find ) but from what i have seen is 1-2 outbreaks and they dont come back for a longe time

Last question is if you don't have blisters on an initial out break what are the chances of getting them on a recurrence with hsv1?

Also the tingling burning itching feeling people experience befor a outbreak is because the virus travels alonge your nerves. When it get to nervs that are small ( where they split off in your skin just below the surface ) it irritates them cuz they're small enough to fill the virus traveling up and out.

from what I have read on case studies is the itching burning tingling of herpes olney laste1-4 days then you should have sores. Olney 20% of people have the symptoms and dont have sores. 70% of people will have symptoms with Sores the first 4-21 day's of exposure. And 80% of people will have sores in 3 months. 20% will have no symptoms or sores in the first 3 months. But if you were not looking for herpes 80 to 90% will miss or misdiagnosed the first symptoms.
This will help you work this problem out yoursealf. This is for hsv2 more aggressive then hsv1. This is from many independent research studies. Also from Laboratories trying to figure out vaccines for herpes. And vaccine trial and research company's. You have to know what you are fighting in order to know if what you are doing is working or not. You can give or take 5%-10% depinding on who did it. The symptoms till blisters usually stays the same.

On primary outbreak if you have symptoms do blisters usually show up? Meaning is it often to have some symptoms without others with the most common symptom being blisters.  If someone did not have blisters on an initial outbreak what is the likelihood of getting on recurrence in particular for hsv1? Thanks. This should give me great knowledge and questions others I'm sure have

There are nerves that extend from the anus to the penis tip and having hemorrhoids or other rectual issue could lead you to believe the irritation is at the tip but in fact its originating from somewhere else.

I have not been squeezing and pulling my penis. If anything, the material decrease in sex and masturbation over the last 6 weeks has put less trauma on it I guess I'm just asking is there a reason you would have some symptoms without getting blisters on primary infection? How likely is that? Great feedback.

And by the way, thanks to Life360 by reminding me of another contributing factor to urethral pain, and sometimes even to abnormal discharge: repeated squeezing and massaging the penis then searching for discharge, lesions, etc. Hands off!

Almost everybody with pain attributed to a psychological origin denies the possibility and insist that in their case, it is "real" and most be something other than psychological. But for the most part they are simply wrong. The pain stemming from anxiety is every bit as real as pain from an injury or infection, just the pain mechanism is different. Tension headaches are caused by stress and nobody questions that the pain is real, from increased tension in muscles of the scalp, neck, jaw, etc. For genital anxiety pain, it's similar,  inreased tension in pelvic muscles, the pain from which can be referred to the tip of the penis (or into the testicles, low back, etc) and can be quite sharp.

Accordingly, wise physicians and counselors don't say that pain like yours isn't real and you shouldn't interpret our comments (me, Vance, Life360, nurse girl, gracefromhpp, and others) that way. But that doesn't mean we are wrong about the cause.

I think this thread, and your questions about your fear of herpes, have gone as far as they can. Of course continue to work with your own doctors if your pain and other issues continue. But you're never going to get substantially different answers than you have had on your various threads, so there's not much point in continuing.

That makes a lot of sense. I just don't think the pain in my penis tip, shooting pain last night is anxiety.  It is real and I just read forums of people having similiar pain/burn for months/years And attribute it to herpes. Its hard to believe herpes would cause this especially w ithout a breakout. Last question is how often do people that have contracted herpes show some symptoms- flu stuff, burning tip, etc without getting blisters? Is it either asymptomatic or not? Thanks

This actually raises a pretty interesting point about human nature, and about who comes to online forums.

People have sexual experiences they regret and that create anxiety. The physical symptoms of anxiety are often focused in the genital area -- typically various combinations of penile pain, uncomfortable urination, lower abdominal or testicular pain, etc; or in women, genital itching, burning, and so on. These folks naturally assume various STDs. On this forum you'll see mostly herpes fears. On the STD forum, they are more often worried about gonorrhea, chlamdia, etc , and of course on the HIV forum they're worried it's somehow an HIV infection.

On top of all this, in the US up to 50% and 15-20% of the population have positive blood tests for HSV1 and HSV2, respectively. Therefore, many of those with these unexplained symptoms have positive blood tests for HSV1 or 2. Obviously, this doesn't mean that herpes is the cause of the symptoms, it's just a chance association. Except in rare circumstances, the positive test does not explain the symptoms; the person has a) asymptomatic herpes plus b) the unexplained (probably emotional) symptoms that brought them to the forum.

Therefore, your observation about the frequency of such symptoms on this forum (and other online sites) does not imply that many of those people actually have herpes that the advisers on this forum -- or their own doctors, or actual herpes/STD experts -- somehow cannot recognize or understand. Even when the blood test is positive, it almost always does NOT mean the problem has been diagnosed.

So none of this is a "weird coincidence" at all. And also remember that forums like this attract people with such symptoms. After a potentially risky exposure, the vast majority of humans don't worry so much and don't experience symptoms of these kinds. Only a small minority (2%? 1%? A tenth of a percent?) of people with potentially risky exposures come to forums like this. Collectively, you are a vocal but small minority!

In reading through this forum I'm amazed on how many people talk about getting sick post an encounter, having a burning penis for longer than the typical herpes primary period, and don't have a breakout. The consensus seems to be its not herpes especially if you only test positive for hsv1. It just seems like a weird coincidence that this stuff would happen right after a sexual encounter and its all anxiety or in your head? Any thoughts?

Im sorry that you have so much worry. From what I have seen on the net and doing my own research the first outbreak could last up to 6 weeks but usually last 2-3 weeks For hsv2. hsv1 is less and even less active when in the genitals. This is first symptoms sores back to fully heald. So 6 weeks of just symptoms no sores is defantily unusual. But im no dr. Did you ever thank its in your head ? Worries stress anxiety fear or something eals? I know you can worrie your sealf sick. (Literally) hsv1 is not commonly on the genitals. You probably had it just like most people have it. The odds that you dont have it are with you. Give your worries to god and pry for yourself to find peace. Ill pray for you also.

My hsv1 score was 30? Does that mean I recently got hsv1 or could my score be that high even if I have had it awhile? Any thoughts I would appreciate.
