concerned...herpes or?

Hello everyone! Here's my current situation. I have been dating a boy for a month and we have been having protected sex. Last Friday he noticed what looked like a pimple on his penis which has now gone away. My problem is that on Saturday I started itching in my vaginal region. By Sunday it felt like a yeast infection. Right now I am experiencing LOTS of itching, it sort of hurts. Parts of my vagina are red but I don't see any distinct looking lesions or bumps of any kind. I recently got back on the Pill and I remembered it causing me to have yeast infections in the past. So my question is, is this just another yeast infection or possible herpes outbreak? If it hadn't been for that bump on the boyfriend's penis I probably wouldn't be thinking about it being herpes at all. I'm getting blood work done next Wednesday but I wanted to still ask my question here. Again my symptoms are itching, pain, redness, and some discharge. I looked with a magnifying mirror at the red areas to see if they looked like bumps or lesions and they didn't but I guess the only true way to tell would be by a culture test. Should I go get one? don't self treat - go and be seen and get a proper exam and testing done. women only accurately self diagnose vaginal yeast infections 1 out of every 3 times so it's not worth guessing what is going on.

odds are that neither of you have ever been tested for herpes either. certainly something to look into especially in light of your concerns about your bf's symptoms.
